and something i could order would be nice. it also looks like those tires are around 40 pounds each which is over double of what i would be willing to spend. (for this thing i'd prefer a 5 pound of a 10 pound tire)

with all those different tire sizes it's so incredibly confusing
Check the existing tyre sidewall, I assume it says 559 on there somewhere. Schwalbe CX Comp is cheap and available in 50-559, e.g. https://www.athleteshop.co.uk/schwalbe-tyre-26x2-00-50-559-cx-comp-kevlarguard-black

For a one-by drivetrain do you size the chain using the same method as a two-by, i.e. round the big sprocket and chainring +2 links?

Not as cheap as you'd like, but certainly not £40.
I'm not in UK, I'm sure you could find cheaper. -

That's what I've done and haven't killed anyone yet.
On a related note, I've been meaning to ask: what effect does a single ring have on derailleur capacity?
Total capacity = (big ring - small ring) + (big sprocket - small sprocket).
The two possible answers to the first part of the equation are either the size of the big ring (eg 53) or zero, neither of which gives a sensible result.

what effect does a single ring have on derailleur capacity?
None. The capacity is dependent on the dérailleur :-)
The amount of capacity you need is just the difference between the large and small sprocket
Total capacity = (big ring - small ring) + (big sprocket - small sprocket)
It makes more sense if you rearrange that:
Total capacity = (big ring + big sprocket) - (small ring + small sprocket)
In the case of a single ring, big ring = small ring so those terms cancel one another and you just get big sprocket - small sprocket
I still works your way around, (big ring - small ring)=0 if big ring=small ring

I'm sorry as I feel this has been asked before, however I can't find out where but can somebody please give me a good option for a good front rack that doesn't require drilled forks

Need a quick, strong and definite answer for a question that's vague and probably has no definite answer.
Six foot tall. Long, graceful torso. Burly, short arms. Stocky, short legs (32").
Can happily ride a 17" mountain bike? I ride a 54cm road bike and sometimes feel I could probably ride a smaller frame.

I ride a 16" with the same leg length as you and rather a lot of seatpin, there's no reason you shouldn't if your stem puts the bars in the right place!

That was my thinking, cheers Colin.

Is there a cassette equivalent of transfil cables? A generic, no branded option to use with 11 speed SRAM set up. Looking for something to put on a spare set of road wheels and not wanting to spend too much.

Is there a cassette equivalent of transfil cables?
No, because making cassettes is an art limited to the bicycle industry. There's no technology crossover from general industrial roller chain sprockets. Why would anybody even bother when you can get a Shimano CS-5800 for under £25? I suppose it's possible that some bike assembler who is looking to nickel and dime on an order of 5000 cassettes might get a better OEM price from Sunrace.

What is the forum approved cable set for gear and brake?

What is the forum approved cable set for gear and brake?
Plenty of people suggest using OEM, so Shimano cable sets for Shimano and Campag cable sets for Campag. I have Transfil on pretty much everything.

What was that cheap 'n' beefy chain tool that people thought was decent? I'm sure @sumo was gonna buy one and @umop3pisdn said it was alright...
