Hmm, Shimano stuff just tends to work very well, whereas Hope stuff gives you the opportunity to rebuild things five years from now.

I think it's just going to come down to cost or looks tbh.

Shame to hear Magura have done such a bad job. You never seemed to have any problems with the older ones.

Martas seem to be regarded as a reliable brake. Mine weren't trouble free, but they were ten years old...

The MT series does not have a great reputation it seems, and has been through one recall. Mine were made after the recall though. Scant comfort.

The Hope Tech 3s seem to have that mythical mix of modulation and power that the Martas had. Reviews seem to indicate that the XTR Race brakes are also a bit less binary than the Trail versions.

I'm using the XTR M9020 trail brakes right now and I think they are great. I tried every Shimano hydro brake on my biek, from bog standard Alivio right through to XTR and, really, everything from SLX is perfectly adequate for us weekend warriors. The difference in modulation between XT and XTR is marginal (XTR seems slightly more subtle in modulation) but absolute stopping power is greater in XTR, IMO. And they are lighter. And moar sexierer simply by being blingy and having XTR printed on them.

For my next biek I will be using Hopes coz longevity and servicing is superior to any Shimano whereas performance gains or losses either way are probably marginal, though I haven't used Hopes extensively on my trail bike.
Most of the Surrey Hills lot I rode with used Hope as their brake of preference and that had a lot to do with performance allied to ease of serviceability. I think Hope have the best after sales support of any component manufacturer. Any dealings I have had with them they are excellent when it comes to support and warranty.

On a side note, I once had the pleasure of severely pissing off the owners of Hope at the London Bike Show (though unintentionally) with general questions about seals on hubs and freehub bodies....
They seemed to think that I was criticising their hubs.

Any experience of the Race Evo? Would pair them up with X2s. Ticks both light and sexh boxes.

Only bleeding and servicing, no actual trail use.

Anyone have any experience remedying caliper/spoke clearance with a spyre? On my front when the caliper is aligned properly to the rotor it catches the spokes, when repositioned such that it doesn't touch the spokes the pads rub. Thinking to try the 1mm hope rotor spacer to push the rotor further out so it can be aligned properly with no rubbing, has anyone done this with success?

It can be aligned by simply moving the pads away from the rotor on the right side, and moving the pads toward the rotor on the left side.

Both side of the pads can be adjusted to get them to bite the rotor at the same time, this also allow you to move the pads accordingly to clear the spokes (which is a compromise of the Spyres' design, and a reason why single-sided disc calipers are the best for this).

Yes, using the Hope spacer, works fine now.

Same as Andy, I've got a spacer on the rear to add clearance with a spyre and all is fine.

I have 1mm clearance between spyre and front spokes and there is no interference issues.

@edscoble the right pad is already wound all the way out to try and resolve the issue, more clearance still needed.

Could be worse. Chap on the Soho bikes ride this weekend had both shocks and his dropper fail and replaced under warranty.

When you say spacer do you mean a spacer that pushes the rotor outboard?

Just check that the rotor has clearance to move outboard. It brings it closer to the fork blade and caliper post mounts. I have 2 mm between fork and rotor and 1 mm between caliper and spokes. So no room to move really. But not having any issues.

If clearance can't cope with the rotor sticking out a bit, two thing;

different wheels, or different calipers (BB7).

Did a check and I have about 3mm of clearance between rotor and fork so hopefully the 1mm hope spacer will give me the clearance I need.
