Update: Saddle arrived ten days after ordering - few QC issues but nothing that looks like it'll impede function or longevity, we'll see how it rides before passing judgement.
edit: Been told below rail looks dodgy - it definitely does.

where it joins the rails looks well dodgy

Would not ride.

Agreed - especially now I've seen the rails on legit SMP carbons are one-piece. Feels solid so gonna give it a bit of abuse round town today to see how it holds up.
I've had Selle Flite Ti rails snap on me before amongst others so for a testrun to see how I get on with the SMP I'm content.

Mine looks similar.
Rails attachment looks proper chunky.
I'd say overbuilt. Plus the rail dimensions were spot on ( important for my clamp). So I'm happy enouhgh
Havent been outside on mine yet though.

After smashing it through 40 miles of gravel and potholed backroads, I'm happy to say it hasn't snapped on me and sent me to A&E. Should be fine for my standard rides, plenty comfy. Can forsee a lot of position tweaking ahead to make the most of it, frustratingly little movement on the rails. Really highlights my hip imbalance too!

Nice long rides the last two days on my genuine Extra and happy to report it's the comfiest I've been on a saddle yet.
Not been so happy with the padded fakey on my fixed and that's only been on commutes. Think I'll be investing in some more genuine ones.

I love mine. I'm sure they make it ugly on purpose so you shell out eventually on a more sleek one. I've stopped even thinking some of the pricier models are that ugly (composit for example)
The Pro and Plus with the crazy droopy noses though, just awful -
• #836
I've been wondering the same. Do they avoid producing a sub 100e road race model just to keep selling more hi end carbon base (+150e) stuff :-)
-
• #837
maybe the cheaper base requires more padding dunno
-
• #838
Almost certainly. Its a shame really. I'd be quite happy to pay 60e for a minimum padded model but made with cheaper materials

I've been thinking about a crabon smp used on evilbay...but my bike has a 27.0 seatpost bore, and can't be reamed.
I guess the SMP carbon won't work on bog standard old rails clamp types?
-
• #840
If you mean those saddle clamp that also clamp onto the seat pin, then no.
Those kind of saddle need a seat post that clamp top and bottom, not clamp sideway.

It's not that old it's the same system as a nitto S65.
I just discovered you can buy spare clamp heads on wiggle :)

I'd be really skeptical about any Carbon SMPs on eBay. Unless it's £30
-
• #843
Yeah, I have to say I'm not sure myself. Box etc all check out but sure...it can all be copied. It's an auction though.

I guess see how much it goes for, but of all the models, the CF is the one I'd most happily go with a fake for.
Even more so as you're buying second hand

My experience with fake gear on ebay (from buying loads of adidas kicks back in the day) is that if its fake and advertised as legit then you can dispute for a full refund and once you've proved its a fake (should be easy enough), you get your cash back and you can hold on to the item as you need to ensure it is "destroyed".
Might want to double-check to see if things have changed in the last few years but I've "destroyed" three pairs of trainers at no cost to myself (in fairness, I bought all three expecting them to be legitimate).

That be fine, old style clamp like that are safer for carbon/ovalised rail.
-
• #847
Ah yeah fair nuff. Seller said it's an unwanted pressie...looks true.
It's not an obvious fake...if it is. Bad for selle SMP I doubt anyone trust their carbons.
-
• #848
Tx pplz need to check which width it is :)
-
• #849
SMP is now in the same boat as 3T - you'd be insane to buy anything carbon that says it's made by them that is not from an authorised, official agent. Sadly this annihilates the second hand value of said kit unless you're selling it to someone who knows/trusts you.

You're all welcome to sniff my saddles to ascertain that they're genuine.
I did feel very good when I leant forward. Something I dont do much on the turbo. Basically the curve felt too shallow, causing pressure Points, when sat up. But was near Perfect when I rotated my hips forward. Speading the load.
Need to get outside really.
