I do like SKS guards having used them previously (and have a pair for a current build) but that was the difference I found, the metal guards were quieter and more robust, not sure on weights but the Alu VO fenders aren't heavy.
Your triple setup gives about 1 1/2 less gi than my double, so not a huge difference. Always scope to fit a 38/40/42 cassette of needed. I think developments in cassette sizes mean people can reconsider traditional arrangements.
I think I would have welcomed a mtb triple and a 22 granny ring at some points but I would probably be sat still spinning up the hills now.

Yeah true you can get bigger cassettes now.
I got this as it is, I think would a build a new one I would ensure I'd had the lowest gear, lose some higher gears (as 52/11...yeah that gets used often...) and have smaller steps between cogs. (lost the 11/12/14 and have 16/17/18 not 16/18)
It's all old 9 speed and still working, I may see what I can do about cassette. It's Lee Cooper built and I love it to bits though....
Mine are fine (SKS) no rattling, no snapping.
Good on you, but I need the 32F*32R on mine loaded in the Scotland hills...
...of course it's not impossible and Audax bikes tend to have doubles rather than triples. Just wouldn't be my first choice.
