  • ConSumer Unit,
was an apprenticed electrician in my younger days.

    Also known as an APELN.

  • @Airhead, thanks for the info regarding earthing.

  • id like to know as well

  • That cosumer unit looks as bad as mine, though I've fitted retrofit breakers in place of the fuse wire holders so that they fail open faster. New unit is on my to-do list.

  • Attached photo is apparently what happens when using a mains drill latched on while wearing loose sleeves. The wire brush caught the sleeve, twisting it like a torniquet until the drill stalled and the arm was crushed. Couldn't move their fingers properly for a long time (allegedly).

  • 5k sounds about right. Any decking involved? And aren't you only responsible for fence on one side?

  • You should have seen the mechanical timer unit attached to mine for switching the electric heaters on round the house. Literally had massive vials of mercury (ie. tilt switches) which were rotated on little clocks. I left it outside and the travelling people took it almost immediately.

  • No, it'll be putting down concrete/fake plastic trees.

Back fence and fence on one side. So approx 4 panels and a gate.

  • Size of shed? That seems low to me but I guess I've been looking at sheds like @Soul has.

Would be interested in knowing what you get your fencing for though. Ours has taken a pounding in the wind and we want to make it cat proof (so ours can't get out rather than to keep others from getting in). There's a company in Sussex who do it by running poles on bearings: http://www.katzecure.com

  • Thats actually a great idea

  • Fuck cats. I have foxes in my yard. I think shed is whatever I pick and pay for. Theyre planning layout of it all...

  • The breeder we got our Burmese from had them - they're kind of ugly but do the job.

Annoyingly our garden is on a steep hill in terraces so might make it a bit fiddly as Spooky is alarmingly agile. He's only been taken out on a lead so far - he grew up in a flat so we don't want to just open the door or get a cat flap yet as we're paranoid we'd never see him again.

  • We just had cat proofing installed to keep our Abyssinian and Somali in the back garden. We used this stuff...

Just the mesh and the fence top stuff. We installed our own posts and then stapled the mesh in place. Plus we have a full summer house in the back too to add extra complexity.

@amey - You are welcome to pop by for a cup of tea if you want to have a look

  • following that line of syllabic reasoning it'd be a CSMUN, which it isn't, it's a CU.

I too did a electrical/tiffys apprenticeship at tate & lyle, got my 2351 & 2391, used to hold the gold, now black ecs card.

And I've never heard of a CSU, except in telecoms, where it refers to Customer Service Unit.

I love wasting time on the internetz!

  • I think we'll need a Jurassic Park style aviary:

  • We have the same concerns with lots of neighbourhood cats and the occasional fox as well. Our meshing stops at the summer house so the other beasts can pass through without any issues. We also have a gap to one side of the summer house with a removable mesh gate. We keep that open for passage and only close it off if we're going to let the cats out. Can send pics if you like. Offer for a cuppa stands for you as well if you're in London (I seem to recall you are Brighton/South coast for some reason).

    Nice looking cat BTW.

  • Cheers, yep, Brighton based these days.

The people we bought this place from had a cat and when we were viewing the property the cat had a gaping hole in its neck after being attacked by a fox (we back onto allotments). I've no idea how it survived much less seemed to be recovering so quickly from surgery but I don't fancy Spooky's chances. This is where he likes to hang out:

  • Tummy trap!

  • @CYOA Is that your ebay or gamer profile on your hand to prove you're legit?

  • Builder is telling me IKEA failed to deliver one unit for kitchen - if true anyone got any experience with this?

  • So, thanks to @Trunkie Giving me some pine slivers, I managed to get a bit of floor work done this weekend...bit off more than I could chew by doing the living room, hallway, landing and my sons room but pretty happy with the results
