So you run bigger gear than me, maybe I just need to htfu.
I like my current gear for commuting and on the flat it's fine to ride with my geared mates but on the climbs they just shift down and spin whereas I need to keep my cadence up so I end up climbing way faster than them which means I get tired quicker than they do.
I'm running 39:16, so about 66inches I think once you take into account the 32c on the back. It's an okay gear, I've ran that to commute and to tour a very flat 1500km in France. I've got an 18t freewheel on the other side but rarely touch it.
More just a case of accelerating gently and then trying to hold as much momentum as I can. Once it's moving it doesn't like to stop.
