Stoke Newington is amazing, very veg friendly. Try Cafe Z or haberdashery for a lovely breakfast /lunch. For something a bit more filling, check out Rasa on church St (vegetarian indian). Stokey bears have a nice veggie burger that can easily be veganised if I remember correctly. If you are closer to Kings Cross, check out VX on Caledonian Rd. Tiny shop with all things vegan, they serve some delicious foods and treats.
Hello everyone BTW, long time lurker first time poster in the vegan thread :)

Thanks for the recommendations! I've been to VX before but not heard of the others.

Whole foods. Fruit and veg.

There was also a small café on Allen Road:

No idea if it's still there, as I haven't been for a while. It was good, though.

Anyone know anything about Melbourne? Got to go there for the weekend, wouldn't mind eating something...

Checkout cycling Mavern on youtube, he's Melbourne based and has lots of videos eating out

I know about VX, anywhere around farringdon/clerkenwell/kingsx you guys recommend?
New to all this vegan malarky

There's not a lot. There's Itadaki Zen, a Japanese restaurant. I've only been there once and found it overpriced and the food was nothing that I couldn't have knocked together, but other people tell me that it's massively improved since and they've had wonderful meals there.
After that, I think you have to go further afield. There's the old Indian Veg in Chapel Market (Islington), fairly unremarkable food (some dairy) but all-you-can-eat and good value for money. There's also The Gate in St John Street, which is vegetarian. (I haven't been.)
Dou Dou in Camden (Kentish Town Road, opposite Camden Tube station) is the last (I think) of those vegan all-you-can-eat buffet places that sprang up around London about ten years ago, but which have now mostly disappeared. It's fatty, salty food but some of it is rather tasty, and it's likewise good value for money.
Alara Wholefoods is in Marchmont Street. They do a pricey vegetarian lunchtime buffet.
There are still a few places in the City, I think, but I haven't been keeping up.
I don't think there is anything else nearby, and the above mentions are obviously cycling-based. :) I can't recommend any of them, though.

Completely off topic but just wondering if we have a special thread for vegan nutrition for riding/fueling up because we have a general nutrition thread and then we've got this...not sure where to post stuff regarding vegan nutrition specifically?
-
• #2643
Good question. By the way - just seen your smoothie recipe - sounds very very good. will be trying it out.
@Oliver Schick might be the best person for this Q

Thanks! Have a look at the recipe I posted on the nutrition thread :)
If everyone agrees, then we could possibly start a vegan nutrition thread as I do think that clean/raw/plant based diet is getting more recognition in terms of fuel and energy for endurance based activities.

Just start a thread, there's nothing stopping you. You can bet that lots of non-vegans will be interested in it, too--people interested in nutrition, basically, which may not include certain people who post a lot on this thread. A lot of athletes are interested in following a vegan diet even if they haven't taken on board the ethical case. (By contrast, while I'm very interested in vegan food, I'm not that interested in nutrition in general or even vegan nutrition.)
Put link to good resources/references in the OP, e.g. 'Plant-based Nutrition and Health' by Stephen Walsh.
I'm sure more good riding food recipes will keep people coming back to it. :)

So should we try a Doodle poll for next week at Cook Daily? It's usually quite a good way of finding out a suitable date. I've left the dates in that I can't make, too, as they may turn out to be the ones that suit most people. I'd quite like to ride to drinks afterwards, too, if we decide on Tuesday or Thursday (can't make Wednesday).
Poll link:

I'd be interested as a non-dairy eater, not much non-dairy nutrition info out there.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm going to start one. Its quite important to fuel properly, before and after :)
-
• #2649
Please post the link up here when you do! I'm not vegan ("only" vegetarian) but am interested in vegan food etc so follow threads like this, but don't post much.

Welcome. Welcome. Can I interest you in some greasy noodles with some brotein deficient vegans next week?
Also, tomorrow (Wednesday) I'll be knocking about Stoke Newington, anywhere around there or Kings Cross/ Finsbury Park that people reccomend for a decent lunch? Ideally something fairly substantial because I'll be getting tattooed all afternoon.
