With these metal calipers I'm getting over 13mm

I can't imagine that anybody has ever sent an axle out of the factory which is that far over spec. Check your calibration, if you have any known cartridge bearings to hand they are a decent standard which will get you pretty close, the OD of the outer race for bicycle sizes will be nominal plus 10-20μm

Urggg... I am measuring coins to work out how far off these old calipers are, agreed the numbers don't look right. Even if my shit old measure was out by .5mm, still doesn't explain why the bb axle sits at the wrong depth.

If your axle really was 13mm minimum across flats, the crank would be pushed out about 9mm. The error on the axle width is multiplied by 28.6 (i.e. 1/tan2°) as an axial displacement of the crank.

I'm getting 12.6 on my shit old caliper 2 mm of the end.

But they still sit out. Perhaps the part nearer the middle of the bb is off?

Note I have an 111mm one like @pdlouche. You were measuring an 103 which works OK.

You'd need to measure the taper angle, or at least colour in the flats with a blue Sharpie® and assemble to see whether you're getting uniform contact.

I'll throw the shit caliper in the bin. It was in the bottom of the toolbox for a reason.

Maybe @JWestland is right, that the angle of the tape isn't the same as old ones...

So, considering that a crank sits barely 50% onto this axle, and now ignoring my shit earlier measurements, should I just mount it? Is this standard?

I need to post mine as I sold it on Evilbay no time to measure angle properly.

If it helps: The fattest flat end just before you see the half circle indent is 13.9 on my calipers.

Spindle is 11.1 but 1 mm off can't explain this.

I got 14mm. Guaranteed my calishits are out by at least 0.1mm, maybe up to 0.5mm if the error is exponential, but I'm still not convinced by this BB. Not known a 'correct' axle sit so bad inside a crankset.

Beauty - awesome bikes - had a 56 until a little ahem accident a few weeks ago, shame this is a 54 as I'd have been very interested otherwise. The Emonda is surprisingly lesser-spotted, especially in Project One guise.

What crank is that? Not having read any pretext to this problem, the pic above looks like an ISO crank sitting on a JIS spindle.
I wouldn't be surprised if the guy at the importer putting stickers on that batch just got it wrong, and the shop's unknowingly sent the wrong type.

I had the same issue with this BB and remember reading on their website (they've since changed it) that they use a slightly different taper angle than ISO as suggested by @mdcc_tester. They didn't mention anything about JIS if I recall correctly so that might explain why tester's JIS spindle is fine

I used mine on a Sugino 75...sits fine on a Ritchey ISO BB.

No marks on mine either like with @pdlouche nothing is ticked. It looks more like ISO than JIS (JIS doesn't have this sharper edge near the middle) but clearly it's not right :/

@Lukas it's Campag Mirage (cheap) bought for the folding bike, ISO crank, sitting on a Tifosi 'ISO' spindle, which as you notice fits like a JIS.
