Yes, by cutting I meant cutting in length, and yes the cyclo / weldite spoke threader rolls the threads...
And yes tandem takes as much as a bus to turn.
It's not a fast machine (mad heavy / single speed until original wheel with Sturmey Archer gear hub is repaired) so double drum has been absolutely fine.
The rear drum is operated by brake lever at have bars but also a foot pedal, which gives more breaking power if needed.
If original wheel can be re instated, I may add a caliper brake as it has breaking surface (although steel rim, so probably pointless)
