  • I have a 5 speed freewheel on my europa and without doing a full change over to single speed..could i..

By a set of flip flop deep dish wheels and just run it as a single speed i.e. set the shifters in correct position and leave them?

  • Go home, you're drunk.

  • Or just take the rear mech off and make the chain the correct length. Don't worry about changing the wheels. Select a gear from the 5speed you want and use that.

  • or. get a 2.5mm bb spacer, a cheap single speed freewheel, and switch with your exisitng freewheel.

Actually. For no cost, why not just put the levers in a gear you like, and then leave it.

  • Thanks for your ideas...reason is i want to put some deep dish flip flop wheels on

  • Hang on what?

By deep dish do you mean deep rim? If so then you've got a single speed wheel anyway. Remove all the gear-changing hardware.

  • Go home, you're drunk.

  • I have no idea what this thread is about.

  • What is so good about deep dish? All my bikes use minimum dish wheels (apart from a Brompton which is green) and I am very happy.

The problem with deep dish is that it is less aerodynamic and harder for the rider to stay balanced as the weight is all on one side. Aslo in high wind or accident the deep dish can become antishided and then you're totally stuck.
