Have you watched this?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p02gyz6b/adam-curtis-bitter-lakeMakes the point that it's impossible to intervene effectively in what are essentially tribal rivalries. It is tempting to see ISIS as a more clear cut example of an enemy that can and should be defeated for the benefit of the region, but you are right to point out the dangers of this.

Yes. He's actually resigned over something worth resigning over.
-
• #39557
I think he's straight, but I also think his resignation was tactical to help win the out vote for the EU and get Bojo the top job, landing himself the chancellorship.

I read the article and it looks convincing but I would caution anyone to approach the Middle East Eye with some trepidation. ~Their~ There is evidence to suggest that the backers of the website (backers who the owner has refused to make public) have been linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists causes, including Hamas, and other groups that have been banned in many places because of connections to terrorism.
To be clear, there is a huge difference between Islam and Islamism. The MEE, in my opinion, does a lot to condone and to promote Islamist causes.

arrested for a tweet? really? so when are they going to arrest that hatchet faced shitgibbon katie holmeskins, who's said far worse?
-
• #39567
Yes. He's actually resigned over something worth resigning over.
Or he saw an opportunity to stick it to Osborne, and took it.
Or he was on Cameron's shit list, but could only be got rid of when a face-saving opportunity arose.
IDS having a change of heart and showing actual humanity? I don't think so.

maybe the muslim woman who he confronted in the street pressed charges ... i hope she did
the numpty only backed up the case by typing stuff into facebook, confirming his actionscan you imagine how much grief innocent muslim men and women are getting from dipshits in the street
bringing it to the public attention might make a few of the cowards think twicebet the prick didn't have the balls to pick on a bloke his own size, instead chose a woman to vent his anger at
right wing pricks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You must mean Katie Hopkins. People like her know exactly how far they can go (probably take legal advice). Deeply unpleasant, of course, but unlikely to get her arrested anytime soon.

• #39572
you're right.
mind if i edit?

Being arrested for writing even what he wrote is a travesty.
He could just be an attention-seeker and he could have made up the story, or the police may have acted on a complaint from the woman he allegedly spoke to. We don't know yet. Whatever, he's still a plank.
(I do think that a lot of people don't get arrested for what they ought to get arrested for, and some people get arrested just because something like this becomes high-profile, even though it does not warrant the actual arrest.)
