I won't be buying any time soon but thanks! I'm more thinking out loud for when I eventually graduate and have some ££. Steel track frame and carbon fork which fits 28mm front and back, I'm thinking it should be a good candidate.
Shopping list:
[ ]650b rim 15E

[ ]miche hub: £23.50

[ ] 73mm drop tektro brake. £38.04 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tektro-r559-extra-long-drop-brake-caliper-set/

Those brakes are terrible and whats the point of going 650b mere 35mm tyre? At least 48mm.
Get V bosses brazed on, it'll be cheap. Use V/Mini V brakes.

I hadn't realised 650b+48mm is only 2mm bigger than 700c+28, thats pretty exciting.
Bikecalc wheel/tyre size chart for anyone who needs itIs there a good rim brake option? A more expensive idea could be a disk fork but I wouldn't imagine a 1" steerer road disk fork is something that actually exists
It's fixed so the brake just has to be good enough, nothing stellar -

carbon fork
A ratty old steel fork would be an option I guess

VO Diagonale is good. I think there is one that Velocity makes as well.
GET V BRAKES BOSSES BRAZE ON. Its the cheapest/best solution.

The brakes you listed are great, not terrible in the slightest.
I and the girlfriend have exactly that, with new pads and decent housimg, they stop great.
-
• #133
Nah they're shit. You know my braking standard.
-
• #134
Cheapest solution is getting long reach brakes, the whole point of the conversion is to be able to use existing frames without modification
-
• #135
Well my calculation is based on Winston's charges for brazing those bosses on plus some cheap tektro V/Mini V.

• #136
What are these tasty wheels?

VO Diagonale on shimano 5800 compass GB tyres all silver
-
• #138
Ah, I need a 135mm rear hub. Sound shiny though
-
• #139
I use it in a 135mm frame, no issues.
-
• #140
Shimano R650 is also pretty good.
-
• #141
wont work
-
• #143
Absolutely. I use CX 8.4 on my daily bike and they are awesome.

What inner tubes are people running? I'm finding it hard to get good quality tubes for 650 x 42mm
-
• #145
Sv12
-
• #146
Not long enough I'm afraid, but the best is usually the Tektro R559 which is more than enough to stop you and have clearance for 42mm tyres.

• #147
Just get 26" inner tube, it's like buying the 700c road inner tube for 27" wheels.

Cheers Ed
you want to buy some tasty 650b rim brake wheels? ;)
But IMO if its a steel frame just get some V brake bosses brazed on for 650b and use with mini V brakes and drop bar levers for the best braking performance.
