  • why not classic/normal nitto stems???

  • If i'm going quill, I'm thinking of getting those nitto ones that allows you to use OS bars.

If you go quill, you need to commit. Quill means no oversized bars. Part of the deal I'd say.

Frameset looks super by the way. Very much dig the wheels. Got them off @Dry?

  • @hekla because it's a threadless steerer so I cant use quills at the moment. If I end up threading it, I'll definitely go the 26.0 route, the OS quill stem was just an idea.

@Tijs Yeh, might squeeze in a Compact if I ever go the quill threaded route. So shouldn't be a problem. Got the wheels off @Dry this morning.

  • What size ahead stem you after? Found a red one here

  • Bike looks sweet. Wheels really look good on the frame. Could do an alter (a la @bankiren below) however not sure how a black stem would go with the silver groupo.

I would just go for the pearl. It is very generic though.
But if you want to go full on 'let it rain' then go for a nitto crystal blue stem (if you can find one) with nitto adbx.

  • Great project.
Just came to chime in with my thoughts regarding the quill stem dilemma:
Dom't thread the steerer. You are not guaranteed that a steerer designed for threadless head sets will have adequate wall thickness to cut away material when threading.

  • Huh, I did not even consider that factor. Always thought all 1" threadless steerer can be threaded. If this is the case, then I reckon i'll be sticking with threadless! Thanks for the advice! @drøn

  • plus, threadless is the way forward anyway. lighter, more stiff, easer barswapz, etc. etc.

  • Looks great with the 50mm crabons.. Top build so far!

  • Alright, been researching stems all night and found out that the ergo stem had threadless version. So my current choices will be a nitto threadless, silver threadless ergo stem if I can find one or a Thomson x2/x4.

Anybidy got a silver threadless ergo stem?

  • So, just couldnt wait to give it a try so went to Condor and bought a chain. Went down to emirates and had a couple of go. Have to say it's one of the stiffest frames I've ever ridden! No opinion about the comfortability yet as the saddle is a stripped SMP.

    To Do:
    Change Stem
    ?White saddle?
    ?White Grips?
    Speedplay pedals
?Cut the steerer a bit to reduce steerer?

I am aware of the stiff chain link!

  • So rad!

I'm not sure about white bars and saddle but it might work

  • yeh, just playing with the idea really. I dont even have a white saddle :p

  • Black saddle. Black strong V's. Keep cages. Make chain tighter. Cranks, ring and post look amazing in this build. Stem doesn't even look too bad

  • Mancini
Maybe even velocity deep v's/ hplus archetype

    IRD cadence.

  • Ummm... This is outstanding. Dibs!

  • Shame about it being in front of the Arsenal tho

  • y u no shimano dura ace quill stem? Best ever design...well maybe the nitto crystlem...

  • It's a threadless steerer, cant use quills :(

  • IRD?
    Sorry don't speak internet.

  • I changed the bars to a road compact one, got a silver spacer that matches the headset but not the stem. Will try without the spacer to see how the fit is, or might leave it as it is in case I decide to sell the frame.

SMP saddle was crazily comfortable with bibs on. I guess i'll stick with a threadless. Wrapped the bars with black tape.

So far, so good! Took it for a ride a while ago and it was amazing! Was worried that 3/32 chainring with 1/8 cog and chain might end up being noisy, but it wasnt at all. Got the silver izumi chain from condor the other day. Have to say that i'm really really happy with this accidental purchase!

Currently running 50/17 which is pretty comfortable and not tiring at all even going uphill at highgate wasnt that bad. The fit was really comfortable and going on to the drops doesnt feel like i'm overstretching at all. But, for some reason, it seems like I forgot how to skid >.> been at least close to 6 months coming since I rode my last fixed gear. Can skip stop but not skid so dont even try to ask for a skid. Will start using this on the streets until i get the time to get to track. Still cant believe that it's so freaking nice to ride! Really cant recommend it enough.

I'll try and get some glamour shots this weekend.. Shame that the 'Shimano' on the seatpost is starting to fade. Will be getting some low profile rims soon, silver ones.

    **Risers maybe? =D

  • 50/17? You must have knees of granite!

  • Hah, not at all, i'm surprised I found it easy. Maybe it's because it's been a while I rode fixed, pretty sure I'll feel this in a couple of days. Will be getting something easier, maybe around 50x20 for when I roll and 50x15 or 16 for track. Leaning towards 50x15 for track.

  • That's a stem away from being very very mint.
