  • and @Smallfurry is right, most people are cunts.

  • The UK needs more wildlife with big teeth to thin things out a bit.

  • ^ ha!

  • In in Exeter and I'm less of a ranty twat IRL, give me a shout if you're out sometime. Woodbury?

  • Rigid - how do people do it?

Niner steel forks on my hardtail as bouncy forks being serviced. Cumulative fatique until hard, dry horse hoof cut up Ridgeway which was hell. Running a Ron 2.25 at 20psi with quite an aggressive position (6cm saddle to bar drop).

Not only hard on the wrists, seemed to make the rear of the bike move around a lot more. Early on felt good - not sure if it's a good way of training to man up or just going to beat me up.

  • quite an aggressive position (6cm saddle to bar drop).

I'd say this is contributing. Riding rigid for me, benefits from having a higher front end, so I can more easily keep my weight balanced.

  • @AdsH rule 5 applys to your problem.

Or try different handle bars, softer ones perhaps, thicker grips with more cush, the fattest tyre you can find and shoehorn in up front.
661 wrist supports can work, but in applying rule 5 i used them when racing a hardtail against full on worldcup DH rigs down fort william in the 6 hour DH Enduro, you needed any edge on that track for 6 hours while on hardtail.

You have steel niner forks on ? the 853 ones....... nice...... rule 5 :) try a Surly Karate Monkey fork up front against the niner steels, you will be glad you have the Niners :)

  • Big front tyre, less drop, swept back bars, ergo grips, keep arms loose and grip relaxed

Pretty much anything else you can think of to try and keep the front 'light' and soak everything up through your legs

  • I think it's just a case of getting used to it. Rigid has loads of benefits, you'll be a better rider for it, pick smoother lines, smugness, bore people down the pub etc

  • I'm more of a ranty twat IRL. So we'll probably balance out. I head down to Woodbury sometimes, or Haldon, or dartmoor. Depends what you wanna ride?

  • Up for anything really, have got a dog who runs with the bike and a gf who I can't keep up with, am in the process of house viewing at mo so a bit erratic, but will give you a yell on here if I'm heading out.

  • Any recommendations for good trails near/easily accessible from Ashford, Kent?

  • Obvious place is Bedgebury - about 25miles west.... I haven't been there for ages, but I remember it being ok....

  • Bedgebury has cropped up for me via someone else, hence recommissioning the Karate Monkey.

They have an informal time trial on i think the "Cake Run" track on Sat or Sunday. £1 a timed run, cash goes back into trail works, i hear a timing system of sorts will be in place, i am working so can't go and play with trail center mamils :)
Car parking might be a bit spendy.
Didn't look super techy but it's not a downhill/freeride park and i am not used to the more xc side of things. Some vids on you tube.
A friend is doing London-Brighton xc charity event and has been going there a fair bit, cafe/cake/coffee may have something to do with that.

Quite a few videos, looks allright to ease oneself back into hitting trees and cartwheeling bikes :)

  • Little trip to llandegla this afternoon, love that place, so flowy, wish I could ride it like neil donoghue.

Penmachno for the first time tomorrow.

  • @Steves @853Superfly Thanks folks, looks like a fun day out

  • Just put a gouge in my Fox Factory 100 stanchions. FFFFFFFUUUUUUU. Buffed down the scratch to remove burrs, added a little bit of clear nail polish, and buffed down again. It's smooth, a little bit of a bump to it but a lot less worse than what it was initially.

I guess I'll see how long the seals last, otherwise I might just buy some Kashima'd 120 travel stanchions and swap them out.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to treat scratches on stanchions?

tl;dr: stanchions scratched, if I ride again will I died?

  • A lump is better than a scratch

I've read about folks having success with body filler / epoxy etc

  • He took the "this biek will ride over anything" marketing too literally.

  • Pls don't quote velomicuntati nonsense.

  • I have new seals and oils coming anyway, gonna have fun installing those new flangeless seals. When they come I'll do a re-inspection and may use epoxy instead of nail polish and buff it til it smoothes with the rest of the stancion.

  • Bedgebury was good fun, and surprisingly quiet on the singletrack. A nice step up from Thetford and only stacked it once
