Good to see it's gone to a new home.
Not sure about the conversion plans, but it's Miitch's game.

Quick plug for my Orbit family tandem, which is plummeting down the sales thread, if anyone's in the market. Sure it could be set up for tt-ing.

Realised I never posted mine here, it's a Santana with look-at-me / peacock paintjob. It's lovely, we were after a tandem with plenty of room in the back, because my girlfriend is a photographer and there's better stuff to see out there than my back.
I don't have a pretty shot of it, just some action pics:
Little camera bag made attached to the saddle, good for stuff that needs to be at hand:
Or, even more importantly:
Ok luggage capacity, not as good as two individual bikes but sufficient. Tent, one sleeping bag, and one rear pannier not pictured:
After a good day's work:
And doesn't it fit perfectly in the bike space of a French train?

Beautiful! Is that chameleon /flip flop paint? Any better pics of the paint?

That's very very nice. Touring plans for this summer?

• #411
Yup, southwest Germany. When's yours ready?
-
• #412
Who knows! Hopefully soon. Waiting on the fork to be modified in the states (everyone downs tools for NAHBS) and the custom spider to be made by Cofa Eng. Jealous Re SW German plans. How long are you away for?

I think it'll be just a week, dunno yet.

That looks stunning!

Fantastic dinner plate brake on the rear

Hmmm
Don't, it looks like far more trouble than it's worth.

• #418
Yep, you're probably right.

Good luck. I emailed asking to buy it and collect, and they ignored my message.

This weekend, on tandem with gf, took a somehow "off-road" diversion on Surrey canal path, we went over a bump... Crack! Twelve spokes! Yes! 12 spokes, instantaneously snapped from rear wheel!
Ok, it's a weak wheel, although it's a genuine tandem hub it only has 36 holes, and I built it on the cheap with recycled spokes from an old shitty mountain bike wheel, not even stainless steel ones... But still! 12 spokes!

12 spokes!
Your tension balance was obviously spot-on

Was the first wheel I ever built, with Sheldon's tutorial, wasn't easy...
Spokes were wrong length, as recycled, had to cut them and roll the thread with an old cyclo spoke threader tool... And the rim was a cheap Indian steel wheel, old fashion size with that profile for rod brakes (although not used here, because drum brake)... Didn't make life easy for my first wheel build... Was over two years ago so it still did last a bit...Really want to have another go at wheel building, in decent conditions... Didn't have a trueing stand at the time either...

I'd be keen on getting low-cost but effective tools for cutting and threading spokes. A friend has a mass of spokes, and I have a couple of wheels that need rebuilding. How hard was it cutting and threading?

Cutting was easy, but not threading; probably because the rolling head, which is replaceable, is a bit worn out... I should probably change it.
I think it's an ok tool for repairs, if you just need a couple of spokes, but I struggled with 36.
If you turn the handle too quick, thread is too elongated and nipple won't screw, you need to get the right cadence ... But again, maybe this was due to worn out rolling bit...
I just pitched the question and got a very indifferent shrug
