  • I know there's an OTP thread but it's not really maintained, nor specific to functional bikes.

Looking for reasonably priced commuter that I'm not scared to leave locked up, but also is fun to ride. I will look secondhand too.

    OTP options so far -
Charge Plug 0 - £350 - okay price, looks nice to ride, nice fat tyres, not too fond of cantis, would swap to Mary bars
Charge Grater 0 - also £350 - I prefer Vs to cantis, alu so lighter than the Plug, skinnier tyres (bad), happy to ride flat bars (or swap to Marys)
On-One Pompino - £400 - seems to have nicer components than Charge, but a bit ugly, skinny tyres and even skinnier rims (bad)...
Vitus Dee 26 - £180! - probably a bit naff to ride, but super-duper-cheap. Cheap discs more trouble than they're worth?
Vitus Dee 29 - £330 - £150 more than the 26in version... getting into Charge territory with that sort of pricing.

    Anything I'm missing?

  • Would take a look at the Pinnacles on offer from Evans as well, they're some of the only cheaper OTP bikes I'd not feel like a muppet on. Generally not too lardy, with fat tyres.

  • You can definitely fit bigger tyres in the Grater as it's exactly the same frame as the Plug.

The only difference is the fork.

  • Fuji feather? Not sure how big a tyre will go in but a smart option that could be "ratted" up a bit...

I reckon anything new is going to attract attention, probably best scouring classifieds, there's been a couple of path bikes for sellz recently depending on your height they could be a good bet.
