Your tension balance was obviously spot-on

Was the first wheel I ever built, with Sheldon's tutorial, wasn't easy...
Spokes were wrong length, as recycled, had to cut them and roll the thread with an old cyclo spoke threader tool... And the rim was a cheap Indian steel wheel, old fashion size with that profile for rod brakes (although not used here, because drum brake)... Didn't make life easy for my first wheel build... Was over two years ago so it still did last a bit...Really want to have another go at wheel building, in decent conditions... Didn't have a trueing stand at the time either...
This weekend, on tandem with gf, took a somehow "off-road" diversion on Surrey canal path, we went over a bump... Crack! Twelve spokes! Yes! 12 spokes, instantaneously snapped from rear wheel!
Ok, it's a weak wheel, although it's a genuine tandem hub it only has 36 holes, and I built it on the cheap with recycled spokes from an old shitty mountain bike wheel, not even stainless steel ones... But still! 12 spokes!
