Which Tyres?

  • Ah, it would appear you don't have to have the green stripe of courage to ride with Pave. Cheers @andyp.

  • @jontea MMMM, love new tyre day.

  • Aye, me too. Haven't got a spare tube now, one exploded while fitting. It was the shitty rim tape that came with the wheels. Replaced it with a few layers of electrical tape, job done. Off for maiden voyage this afternoon.

  • I need some new 25mm gum walls that actually come up at 25mm for my Reynolds carbon clinchers

Suggestions? I had to run 23mm vittorias open corsa SC otherwise they rub my left chainstay very slightly

  • I suggest you get some decent rim tape because otherwise you'll be pissed when you try to get that electrical tape off in a few months.

  • New rim tape ordered, will fit next time I need to take a tyre off.

  • Tubless tyres.

    Talk to me.

Saw a review of schwabble one? That had really low rolling resistance.

  • I doubt I'll move from open pave. But you know, seeing the options.

Latex tubes and open paves is sublime.

  • Also been thinking about moving to the darkside and using 4000s ii.

  • Pro One. Very light, very quick, no punctures because tubeless.

    Yeah interesting for sure.
Anyone know what the longevity in milage is on them?

  • I'm also looking about best options to try road tubeless, I've been advised to avoid all hutchinson's :D

  • How do the 27mm open paves measure up (and on what rim)? I'm trying to decide if I can fit them or not. Probably height matters more than width, but both are interesting.

  • Not massive, they're racing tyres.

  • 26.5mm wide on 23mm rims, not sure about height. Probably stretch out a little to come up true to size.

  • They're not big, my 28mm gravel kings took up nearly all the room I had on the fork, quite a bit to spare with the open pave 27 mm. Have a look at my cp thread, pic of op on my Giant Defy.

  • Yeah. Intersting. Need to get some and try them out.

  • Hmmmm, Open Paves not upto Cheshire roads. Bit of gravel/tarmac straight through. Gravel kings back on until I have time to seal the hole in the rear o/p. Bugger, was enjoying that ride home.

  • bike24 has them cheapest.

  • Got my second pinch flat in few months, killed two tyre levers to no avail. S-Ones will be in as soon as tape and gloop arrive, currently stretching in spare wheelset. If anyone wants a pair of Conti Grand Prix race in 28mm drop me a Pm. Great tyres, just shit to fit into my rims

  • I run a disc in the rear with tubs and a regular wheel in the front with clinchers.

I've decided to go gumwalls/tanwalls and stick to a 25mm-ish if possible.

I've seen so many mixed reviews of Vittoria Rally tubulars. Some people hate them, some say they are a decent training tubular. Should I stay away? It seems the Rally's are the only inexpensive 25mm gumwall choice. The other option is the Conti Giro in a 23mm. Anything else I'm missing?

Now is there is an inexpensive equivalent in a clincher for my front? Again...25mm and gum/tan wall. Seems the cheapest is the Vittoria Corsa G for around $50 from Ribbles.

Last question...is the tan stripe colour on the Vittoria Rally tubular the same tan as on the Vittoria Corsa? The Corsa's look almost white-ish tan in pics.

This is just a street bike and I'm not about spending 100s on tires.
    Thanks

  • Don't ride a disc on the street then

  • I rode tubs for years (many years ago) and usually do run nicer tires. Just need something cheap for right now.

  • Clement Strada LGG?
