• So I've been wearing a Casio F91W for three years. Not for any reason other than it's cheap and tough. Now here in NZ you can get away with mountain-biking shorts at business meetings, fleece from the fishing shop in a restaurant etc. My partner has told me since we are moving back to the UK that I need to smarten up a bit. She's already thrown out the fleece.

So I need a watch. One that's affordable and reliable but presentable. The VW Passat of watches, rather than the Subaru Brumby I've currently got (did you have to google that?)

I quite like those Swatch Rebels but every Swatch I've owned has broken within a year. I also had a Timex Expedition (analogue) but that broke after a year, too. I had a Seamaster DeVille but it was too spendy/delicate to wear at work (I'm a product designer so I am in the workshop a lot).

I don't want anything big or flashy or more than a hundred quid. It must be robust and reliable.

I am interested in a Seiko 5 of some variety, but are they reliable? And are there any alternatives?

  • I'd get a CWC instead though! There's actually a new (properly) waterproof version by CWC, though they are a bit pricey.

  • I was gonna suggest IWC* Sorry MWC :o) too.

Mine is still going strong and I use it for DIY / Gardening etc.

I think it is a kinetic movement so should be fairly robust? (Less complicated)

    or a Seiko?
