Help with 5 speed wheels

Posted on
  • hi just bought a Raleigh ti but had mavic tubular wheels......can anyone point me in the right direction into getting a suitable replacement but clincher....5 speed hub

  • Just rebuild the hubs onto new rims

  • ^ if you get rims with the same spoke count and same diameter at the spoke holes (or same depth, whichever way you want to think about it) you can rebuild them super-easily. Just tape the new rim to the old rim, side by side, and transfer the spokes across one-by-one. I'd recommend replacing the nipples though. Maybe try Mavic MA2 rims - still cheap and easy to find, period correct, very similar depth so should work fine.

Alternatively you could find a new rear wheel. http://www.retrobike.co.uk will be a better source for both wheels and rims than lfgss.

  • +1 for rebuilding wheels.

Ha, that's an excellent tip! Note to self.

  • Thanks for replies and videos...weinmann wheels seem to do the job...just looking for some to fit the rear dropouts which is 126mm external
