Some form of Seiko sounds like the obvious choice, they're pretty reliable. Creation Watches always have plenty at a decent price http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-automatic-watches-69/index-2-3a.html?currency=GBP

I'd go for a Seiko 5 from somewhere like Creation.
Alternatively if you want something smarter but still sensible budget the SEIKO SARB033 / 035 is very nice. Maybe with a distressed brown leather strap.
Its a nice balance.
I don't know what these people are like but they seem to have it: http://www.seiyajapan.com/products/s-sarb033

If you're not bothered about automatic movements, I just gave my father-in-law one of these, and it's a cracking watch for £84. Really hard to beat for <£100.
So I've been wearing a Casio F91W for three years. Not for any reason other than it's cheap and tough. Now here in NZ you can get away with mountain-biking shorts at business meetings, fleece from the fishing shop in a restaurant etc. My partner has told me since we are moving back to the UK that I need to smarten up a bit. She's already thrown out the fleece.
So I need a watch. One that's affordable and reliable but presentable. The VW Passat of watches, rather than the Subaru Brumby I've currently got (did you have to google that?)
I quite like those Swatch Rebels but every Swatch I've owned has broken within a year. I also had a Timex Expedition (analogue) but that broke after a year, too. I had a Seamaster DeVille but it was too spendy/delicate to wear at work (I'm a product designer so I am in the workshop a lot).
I don't want anything big or flashy or more than a hundred quid. It must be robust and reliable.
I am interested in a Seiko 5 of some variety, but are they reliable? And are there any alternatives?
