I wasn't intending to build another bike as I or rather we , as it is Mrs NLL and myself, have a long term plan to move to Crediton, Devon to retire and enjoy some picturesque riding in the Devon countryside. For those who don't know Crediton is about 8 miles north west of Exeter but, more importantly, bewteen Dartmoor and Exmoor. This area is pretty scenic, cycling code for hilly. Do we want fixed gear bikes there, possibly not. However, I have two and Mrs NLL has a beautiful Mercian that I built up to replace her stolen Condor Pista. The fixed gear stuff has to go hence my putting the link to the sales thread!!
What, I ask you, has that to do with my posting here about a custom path racer build, if I am getting rid of two perfectly serviceable fixies as they wont suit what will be our new lifestyle. Well, it has a lot to do with this forum as the frame has been built by a forum member and I'll be getting parts from other forum members
Now back to the tale. It started several months back when I was drinking coffe in 2&4 Vintage Gallery & Furniture on Southgate Road, N1. The owner, Maurice, asked me if I knew that there were two guys in the main building who are starting to build bike frames. I immediately thought I'd try and see them but somehow that never happened. Month later Maurice again asked me if I'd been to see them and if I knew the Irish guy, James, who was building frames. Once more I replied that I hadn't got round to visiting but the name of the framebuilder jogged my memory.
After finishing my coffee and before continuing my walk with Jack, the beautiful Labrador cross Guide Dog I look after I popped into the yard but was unable to see which unit the work was being carried on in. Later I sent a message t0 James O'Sullivan, our very own @jimjamosullivan, who I'd had dealings with in the past. I knew that he has pretensions on being a frame builder as he was doing a welding course at College of North West London. Shortly afterwards I got a response to my PM and sure enough the mystery framebuilder was Jim.
I'll leave the story there and continue later but, in the mean time below is a link to some pictures of the frame. Comments are always welcome.
Lets start with a nice picture
It is an interesting story but first I must get a quick boost for my for sales thread in as the bikes there are an integral part of the tale. - http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/282210/#comment12848510
