  • Nice! Are those friction only shifters? How do you find them with 9sp?

  • @Gandalf get the Grand Bois 42mm from him.

    puncture prone my arse.

  • @pryally, don't want to jump any queues but if nobody else wants them I'll take the GB 42mm tyres. Ta

  • well clever clogs you explain how 5 punctures in two weeks on the same route I've taken the last four years with on average one puncure every three months and before you spout out your usual 'low pressure' bollox they were run at 45ish?!

I've had none in two weeks with the g ones

  • Looking great this! Enjoy some miles on it...

PS... for all those on the Grand Bois Hetre - they were quite a bit discounted on A Cycles last time I looked ~£36 each?

  • Luck, pretty much boiled down to this.

At one point in 2014 I got 3 punctures in 1 weeks (unrelated to each punctures), in 2015 zero punctures despite now working in Central London.

    Plus 45psi is pretty high.

  • I'm sure this has been asked but who made the rack?

  • Haulin Collin - it's designed specifically for this bike (maybe for a Rawland as well?).

  • Yeah, friction - doddle to set up but it does take some getting used to not to miss gears. What I love is the ability to slide from a high gear to a low gear very fast when moving from the smooth stuff to the rough stuff.

  • sorry, but I think you're wrong - the tyres have no protection and being wider there is a larger chance of riding over something. I tried less and it was awful, really squirmy and difficult to steer

  • To be fair when you go too low it does feel squirmy but having said that I'm running my front at 22 psi. On a wide tyre 45 is pretty high.

  • Those 2.1 or 2.25 and do you think the Blumels will fit over them?

  • 2.25... Not a chance. In fact I doubt the switch back hills will either. I bought the blumels thinking I'd be going 42mm biggest.

  • BigXtop rando bag by @jtrent90 fits all the stuff I need for a morning commute. Pair of size 12s, trousers, shirt, socks etc, toiletries and a towel. Happy days!

  • The larger tyres have more contact point but less likely to get punctures due to the lower pressure.

    Reckon its just bad luck.

  • I can't believe that I've only just discovered this thread!
Great build! Very similar to mine, right down to the BigTop bag.

  • you got a thread for yours?

  • No thread for mine I'm afraid. Very similar to yours in that it's some parts bin stuff + some new bits. I've been meaning to pop a pick in the functional thread. I'll do that rather than take over yours.

  • How are you getting on with those shoes?

  • Great ride tonight but learnt a few lessons.

    1. Loctite threads holding rack. One not gone, one almost gone. The resulting bouncing of the unsecured arm has rubbed the paint of a section of the fork. Patina.

    2. Secure your stuff. Phone bounced out of pocket and took me half an hour to find it. Idiot.

  • Nice stick!

  • Nice looking bike, loving the contrast!
Did you tap the rear mech to take a barrel adjuster? Adding an inline adjuster may have given you a small amount more cable length to deal with.

  • I did not. It's a good idea, shifting OK at the moment but I will have to redo at some point and will remember that.

  • That's odd then. It looks like an XT RD-M771 rear mech. If so I have these on two bikes, neither of which has an adjuster!
