  • See scobles SMP thread https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/255344/newest/ - width is pretty much irrelevant with the SMP's

  • Are those fake smp's available in a wider size?

With SMP, you don't want a wide saddle, you'd need to throw away everything you know about bicycle saddle to adapt to this.

Remember I have a fairly massive sit bones width, yet find the narrow SMP Composit (129mm) very comfortable.

  • Hmm. Interesting. Thanks guys

  • Must say - they look pretty awful... But if they work they work

  • yup, they ain't pretty - but they work (and look better and weigh a lot less than an Adamo...)

  • First open hill climb of the season.
Swapped a few things about and its now 6.9kg Inc power2max and Garmin.
Speedplay spindles swapped for ti and ti skewers.

  • and did it propel you up the results sheet?

  • Sort of, 26th vs 38th on the same climb last year - but 20s slower...(headwind)

  • all progress!

  • For the last HC of the season up Bristol South CC's HC on Burrington Combe I decieded to go HHSHCB and put my 88mm deep 25mm wide carbon tubs with Veloflex records on, as the course is quite long at 2miles and fairly shallow and the Veloflexs are much nicer than the Conti's on the wheels above and only a couple of hundred grams heavier.

Managed 13s quicker than my time last year and 22 rather than 29th - so slowly making progress :)

  • Picked up some cheap FMB Competion CX 22mm tubs so I took the Conti sprinters off the 50mm wheels as they were getting a bit worn and I am debating whether to sell the wheelsand get something a bit wider (but possibly less deep...)
Gave me a chance to pop them on the scales.
Wheelset comes in at 1160g !

So the question is - do I go for a lightweight 38mm deep 23mm wide wheelset - possibly a few grams lighter, but shallower, but wider... Or 50mm 23 (or 25)mm wide (but heavier) wheelset - probably more aero, but the bike is mostly (but not exclusively) for hill-climbs.

  • Not got round to new wheels, but there are changes afoot.

Campag record is out - being replaced with Ultegra Di2 1x11

  • 1x11 road? oof

Dare I ask the gear choice? 48t and 11-28?

  • 50t and will use either 11-32 for hilly stuff or 11-28. Will change to a single 38t for hill climbs later in the year.

  • So a 50/38 chainset instead?

  • Alternatly a 46T with 11-34 (can work if you only have a single chainring).

  • :)

50-32 is only 3GI higher than 36-25 So I will stick with the 50t for nearly all my riding and racing.

Will run an 11-25 or 11-23 with the 38t for hill climbing as it will save a few grams :)

  • Di2 bargains are coming along

6870 shifters for £75, mech for £70, charger battery mount and b junction for £45 and a junction for £8. Just need a couple of etube cables now...

  • Pre-loved items, I take it? Otherwise, lordy, that's cheap!

  • Thats how Di2 should be priced IMO.

  • Hah, Yes of course.

Shifters are pre crashed / scratched even ;)

  • Yeah here's hoping 105 di2 comes out soon at those kind of prices.

  • Race spec :
