Got 5s, wouldn't buy over DT. Don't like the hubs.

• #6328
have you thought about a career in journalism - such expansive prose...
cheesey, too quiet, too noisey, poor quality bearings/seals?!
-
• #6329
Dunno, just don't seem that solid ya know? So flexy maybe? Dunoooo. DT on Pompino is nicer.

• #6330
DT ftw.

Don't know about those Mavics being sold on eBay but Mavic have a factory in Romania. So maybe legit. But don't take my word for it.
Maybe they just got legit stickers from the factory and stuck them on fake product. :-D -
• #6332
That would make sense, cheers. I tried looking for fakes for sale and couldn't find any, so I think they're good. I'm looking at exalith jobbies, so probably more difficult to fake than a generic deep crabon job with stickers.

Been thinking about some 10speed disc brake wheels for touring and exploring. Saw these for £60 with discount code but will weigh a metric ton. They'll fit my preferred 28mm Marathons and Roadrat can accomodate 135mm OLD but are they just far too heavy? False economy? Worth saving up for some secondhand lighter, proper road wheels instead?

will weigh a metric ton
Given that the typical CTC off-road touring types like Rigida Sputniks on XT hubs, which will add up to about 2.4kg for a pair of wheels, I doubt that anybody is going to pick up your bike outside the cafe and do comedy weightlifter gurning.
-
• #6335
XT to Sputniks - great reliable combo
-
• #6336
You make it sound like the weight isn't an issue, but other things are...?
-

You make it sound like the weight isn't an issue
Because it isn't. They're unlikely to be as much as a pound heavier than the lightest wheels you'd want to be off-road touring on.

I meant more that perhaps you were suggesting there were more important reasons to stay away from the PX wheelset other than weight (compatability/quality).
Have I actually found a real life bargain?
-
• #6339

I wasn't. I have no idea whether they are any good, but for £60 they don't have to be much above doorstop in terms of utility to be worth the money. I'm guessing the hubs come from Taiwan, and I'd expect Mach1 to be capable of picking a reliable partner (if I were a betting man, I'd say Formula based on the flange cut outs, maybe a tarted-up variant of the CX-20/CX-22) to go in the middle of their French made rims

Has anyone bought the Flo 45s yet? I have the 30s and I like them a lot, but the 45s look like a mean beast. A lot lighter, too. (The inner rim width is less at 17mm vs 19.4mm, though.)
-
• #6341
Ok, that makes sense - thank you!
-
• #6344
Oh, FFS, I've got 5 wheels covered by that recall, all fitted with tubs. Bollocky bollocks.
-
• #6345
I am so sorry ;-)
-
• #6346
I know, #firstworldproblems doesn't really start to cover it. Still a massive PITA though.
Turns out I can't count though - it's only 4 wheels, and one of them's is @Cycliste's.
-
• #6347
I'll take a couple off your hands if its too much hassle for you.
-
• #6348
My skills at pulling wheelies are too limited for that to work for me.

Campagnolo Scirocco 35 vs Campagnolo Khamsin?
Is there really much difference within this price bracket?

Campagnolo Scirocco 35 vs Campagnolo Khamsin?
Is there really much difference within this price bracket?
That's not really one price bracket, Scirocco35 is about 70% more than Khamsin. Of course, what you should be looking at from that factory for shallow rims around £100 is Fulcrum Racing7 LG, and in the ~£170 range with 35mm deep rims Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG. I'd avoid the Khamsin/Racing7 as they have plain gauge spokes
ok, so the DT swiss look to be the most r0bust, the 5s are the lightest and the quattro's are a teeny bit wider and possibly a teeny bit more aero, now I cant make my mind up!
racing 5 £144.49
racing quatttro £162.99
DT swiss £164.40
