  • Sounds like a great plan. The Jopen church/brewpub/restaurant in Haarlem is also quite good

Should you want to do some more km's and go south/west a bit further, here's some more brewery top tips:

Dochter van de Korenaar (in Baarle Hertog, a piece of Belgium in NL)
    Brouwerij Kees
    Emelisse

    cheers!

  • sounds like a plan mate ;0)

  • Limburg is a great place to ride a bike.

  • none of these breweries is in Limburg. but it sure is nice to ride there :)

  • Gelateria Maastrichterlaan Vaals

  • Con Con Raadhuisstraat Elsloo

  • La Bruschetta, Gulpen

  • Hijgend Hert, Vijlen

  • @fussballclub - cheers, will try the Gelateria too next time. Elsloo is a bit too far north.

another one for you btw: Café Modern, Teuven

  • I'm cycling from the hook of holland up to haarlem in a couple of weeks - any recommendations on the best route?

  • Good shout on Jopen, ta - I can do both them and het uiltje in one go, that might be my Saturday night actually, though I'm staying in zoetermeer (can get really good deals on the NH there).

I've always wanted to go to Baarle Nassau, it just looks nuts on the map.

  • Ouch, Zoetermeer. You'll be wanting to get on yer way as quick as possible ;-)

  • Aye, it's a dull old place but so cheap. (Also very easy to get anywhere from - I think Friday night in heading for delft, there's a couple of great bars there)

  • ...straight up the coast, den haag, katwijk, noordwijk, zandvoort, haarlem - see last page in reverse!
here's the route starting from den haag, you can just hug the coast and follow the signs all the way up though

  • en route now, will smash the c50 cx round tomorrow!

  • Get off the boat, turn left, keep the sea at your left side at all time, stop at your destination :)

  • Any locals know what the deal with wild camping is in Holland? Headed over from Ireland in late May for 10 days bike touring and hoping to wild camp for at least a third of it.
Usual common sense rules apply? aka hide as best as possible and it'll be fine :p

  • Actually got off my ass and checked... Technically illegal (nothing new there) but there are certain legal spots where you can camp for free...

  • Awesome website. Thanks for posting.

I'll be doing a Amsterdam-Calais trip with a friend starting 28th May, probably picking up a couple of these places on route. Maybe we'll cross paths.

  • poor weather last week in Dam

popped into Presto to get a chaip wip/cassette tool of my mate Bert

and rigged up the commuter wheelset on this

tyres are all about health and safety after i got stuck in a tramline with700cx23 on a master and nearly lost a bollock due to over self medicating in the coffee shop

  • Is Presto worth a visit ? Tempted to visit here also :-

In Amsterdam for a long weekend, does anyone have any recommendations for a bar where I could watch Flanders on TV ?

  • Presto sells modern kit now, but are nice people so may be woth a pop in,or go to see Lester at the RIH attelier in Adam Noord

  • Think I spotted you in De Pijp last week (tuesday-ish)? Either that or someone has an equally nice black CX Colnago in Amsterdam.

    Weather was much better Friday

  • Yeah, hide as best as possible.. But it's pretty tough! We rode from the Hook to Copenhagen (via Amsterdam, across the Ijsselmeer, through Groningen etc), and really struggled to find discreet spots... The landscape was so flat and manicured, and we rarely came across woodlands or even shrubbery to hide in.

We camped in one of the legal spots one night nr a town called Twijzel (or rather, on the other side of an overgrown field to it as we didn't find the actual spot until the morning...). But luckily, the Dutch seem to love their camping holidays, so you will never be far from an official campsite if you can't find a wild spot. Sounds like a nice spring trip - enjoy it!
