  • That is rather handsome - and given that it says COSC on the dial I assume that it will be the new in-house movement. Hmmm, there may be another Tudor going into the watch box soon. Ejay? You out there?

  • Is there a preferred Seiko modding site?

  • Gone over to the dark side?

    @31trum is the expert...

  • I like the Tudor apart from the Brown bezel.
The strap is tasty, fancy a sand / khaki one for my SKX

  • Just having a nose, that's all.

Quite like the idea of having a bash at it.

  • easy enough to do, only a few tools needed.
    yobokies and dagaz for parts.

  • Of those, only the Smiths is still available, but you might find a used Zeno or MkII somewhere. Smiths is 40mm, I believe the Zeno and MkII are 36mm.

I have the Smiths, it's a lovely watch, beautifully made.

  • On reflection, I'm not sure I could bring myself to wear one... I'll just have to save up for the real thing, 1967 for me...

I think the last one I saw, that caught my eye, was less than two grand but a 1966... I bought a 1970 Les Paul Custom instead... 😋

  • Nor sure about bronze or any red tinted metal eg. rosegold on a watch.

Moves it into furnishing / fittings. Or Diesel / Fossil territory. :o/

  • I can see the problem with bronze. How about a bit of titanium nitride?

  • Is my egg done yet? :oP

  • 1967 for me...

    DOB of your firstborn?

    ;)

I wouldn't wait too long. The prices just seem to rise. I had no luck finding an early 80s one and the later ones in VGC seemed to come up for almost £10k. So I've given up for the near future.

  • I've changed my opinion on rose gold as I'm getting older. I think by enlarge I prefer it to yellow, but only really on something classic and slim. I think you've got to be at least as good looking as this dude to pull off chunky gold.

  • I fucked up not grabbing the one I saw, I think the price may have been a bit higher than two grand but not much more... TBH tho', my money's going into guitars from now on... As much as I appreciate watches I'd much rather invest the money in something I can make some noise with... 🙃

  • The cool thing about the tuna is it could go in the pan with the boiling egg and come out unscathed! But yeah, it is a bit of a chunk.

  • It is very nice. Was just pulling leg. :oP

  • Mines going on boring adult stuff and the cost of living.

In other news I received the GP.

    Pros:

    • it looks nice
    • visible condition is decent
    • I think it will be liked

    Cons:

    • it is very, very stiff to wind relative to anything I have wound before
    • it stopped a few times yesterday and has just stopped again
    • after a wind and a wear and being left over night the power reserve lasted 7hrs.
    • after extensive interneting I am 99% the rotor/weight has been milled out for some reason with a spacer ontop and a screw to hold it. So it should look like the nickle movement.

I want to take it to Alsal to have a look, but as he said they don't do eBay watches and only looked at the previous one as it was a present I feel a bit embarrassed going back immediately with a dud.

  • That Smiths Everest is nice, what kind of price are they? any links to sales? I can't find.

  • Yep you're going to get all kinds of I-told-you-so from Alsal.....

  • Regarding the work done on the rotor, I'd be slightly concerned about what else might lurk beneath. There are watchmakers who would be willing to work on it, but just be careful that it doesn't end up being a money pit.

£240 from memory. I've got one. Love it.

  • The Smiths Everest is lovely. Really tempted.

  • I know... sigh

I'm a bit annoyed that instead of sticking to a quite rigorous process of asking questions and focusing on common movements I jumped on what I thought looked best.

There's a rotor for a slightly different 39 jewel 22.19 on eBay that I was wondering about pre-emptively buying just in case.

  • Of those three it's the nicest but I can't stand the elongated dial markers, just a bit tooooo long... Horses for courses, I guess...
