Anyone installed a centrelock lock disc (Shimano RT81, cassette type lock ring) onto a DT Swiss 240 front QR hub?
I installed the rear without issue.
The front... Looks like I have to remove the axle end to be able to get the tool (Park FR5) to engage the disc lock ring. Axle end fouls the tool otherwise. Am I missing something? Don't have a vice or axle clamp so looking for an alternative.

Would the cassette lockring tool with the larger bore that you use for Miche (and maybe some campag?) bottom brackets help?
Note sure the tool code but Park definitely make it. We have both types at work.
Edit: the one I'm thinking of is a bbt5/fr11 but it does campag lockrings so probably not gonna fit the centrelock lockring. Maybe there's a shimano equivalent?

Different tool
Or the end cap just pulls out - to facilitate easy q/r, maxel, 20mm swapsies. Check the hub manual.

The manual doesn't detail how to remove the disc. End caps/adapters need mounting in vice to remove though. Maybe it's time I bought a vice. Or one of these:

I pulled the DT swiss end caps out with molegrips. Scratched them a little, but they still seem functionally ok. Have you considered just using the DT swiss centerlock things instead of the Shimano ones? They use hollowtech BB tool to tighten around the outside instead.

I tried with some mini-molegrips earlier but they were too small. Managed to give my finger a good crushing instead. I think I'll get one of the DT lockings and get on to riding the thing.

:) they were a right bastard even with real size molegrips, had a t shirt wrapped around the cap but still scratched it. Proper sweating and pulling at it for ages. Was terrified I'd break the hub but they popped out eventually.

Wow. What's holding them in so tight

Not a clue, I seem to recall one of them came out easy and all of the QR caps I popped in went in easy.

Easily the least eye pleasing shifters I've seen.

Prototypes, works in progress, i would expect most of the development cost to go into getting the hydrobrake + shifters slimmed down.
Calipers are just plain old 2 part affairs, nothing really exciting there, no funky new standards with 6 bolt rotors :)
Campy appear unfussed from that article........ until a pro has a major win on disc brakes and the pro teams start demanding them, until that happens not in a rush to get them out. -

My post mount forks have clearance for 140mm rotors and I'd like to use 160mm - what adapter do I need, all the ones I seem to find are postmount to IS...
Any ideas?

postmount to IS
No, those are like unicorn poop
Most will be IS to PM, because until recently sensible frame builders still used IS mounts even though IS calipers are pretty much all gone now.
You need postmount 140 to postmount 160.

ok thats annoying..
is there any reason then I shouldn't just go with 140mm rotors front and back? Will I die?
I would be using this bike for alpine trips and don't want to melt the rotors...

Not entirely sure but would this work:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/shimano-mount-adaptor-front-post-to-post/rp-prod13747I don't see why a 160 > 180 adapter isn't identical to a 140 > 160. The mounting points are the same and the step up is the same.
Obviously I could be completely wrong. -

I think it would - found this on rose that's a magura alternative and it says works for 140->160 or 160->180

Ah good stuff. Questions answered then.
Get it purchased and get riding. -

What are my options?
They were decent bolts too. Hope stainless. It rounded out - decent torx was used. Drilled the head off and then put a suitable groove on top for flathead screwdriver and the thing still won't budge.
Am I going to have to risk the thread and drill the thing entirely? Most guys on the XC circuit run 3 bolts so not too worried about losing it but would rather have it...
