I quite like games like Splinter Cell where you're almost mechanically forced to be stealthy at certain moments. Same with Alien Isolation.
In other things like Ass's Creed where you can largely do what you want I always get too tempted to just not give a shit about stealth and run amok. If it's intended as a stealthy game I don't want to be given too much freedom not to sneak about.
I think Thief 2 was the don of stealth games as it struck the balance just right. You knew there were times you had to be stealthy and other times you could just get your sword out and chop people up.

Those of you who are into stealth games, which are your favourites and what makes them so good in your opinion?
That's all secret.

That's awesome, cause I never got round to completing the staff. After doing a dungeon 20 times and the part I needed still not appearing I couldn't be fucked.
-

nice touch, blizzard.
what staff? staff of herding? supposedly almost impossible to assemble all the bits. pretty sure staff ain't needed for this tho. it's really about giving a nod to the developer who passed away.

Yup thief 2 a tense classic. Putting out the torches with arrows always fun. And the daddy of stealth ws the original deus ex.... Hacking cameras, invisible tech. System shock to was up there for tension

Keep us updated! Quite keen to get in on that as a hopefully more-fun Destiny style thing with a few buddies.

Will do - can't promise rapid progress; normally only get a couple of game sessions in a week.
But initial impressions - enemies aren't quite the bullet sponges they promised. Guns feel satisfying, enemies seem sort of intelligent. The environment is incredible, the game's atmosphere suitably post-apocalyptic... slightly tense, slightly creepy.
So far, the best bit is learning how to shoot and reload properly. Sounds simple, but the game makes you shoot in controlled bursts, reload at the right time behind cover etc - for an rpg it feels quite realistic. -

Heard the single player is weak. Confirm or deny?

Anyone doing the new Hitman?
Hadn't been paying much attention to it (don't think I even finished the last one) but the first impressions I'm reading seem very favourable.

Graun just reviewed it and are impressed - will definitely give it a go, big fan of Hitman.

Almost finished Tomb Raider on the hardest setting. A lot of fun, pretty challenging for someone who's better at puzzles than combat. Tried to do it all only using the bow and arrow, but have had to switch to shotgun occasionally. Poison arrows ftw.

I have played a bit, but then got side tracked with FO4. Only reason I have it was I kickstarted D:OS 2 and they gave me 1 as a bonus. There's an enhanced edition, shit ton of content etc... Really must get back on it.
Might want to wait though, lowest price has been 17.99

that's... a bit cheaper. OK i'll wait.

• #15046
Oh, started to enjoy FO4 a bit.
Takes a while though ey?
Did the Fire support mission (at the very start) and was offered to be a part of the Brotherhood of something but they struck me as tossers so told 'em to do one.
Have a shit ton of fuel cells and laser guns or something, do I store them somewhere? Will sell of most the guns obvs... -
• #15047
I reckon it might be a bit like playing Borderlands in single player. A bit pointless.
-
• #15048
Dismantle the guns at the weapons bench in Sanctury (your little town) get bits to build / upgrade.
-
• #15049
Awesome. Wasnt sure if it was best to do that or sell em. Cheers!

I've never had an issue with currency in the game, there are perks to find more caps that I always dump a point or 2 into.
Something I really like in Mark of the Ninja / MGS V is the fact that getting spotted is not an instant failure thing.
I also think getting movement to feel both right, and engaging is also key. I accept that Ripley in Alien Isolation is a very different character to Venom Snake, but the way she runs feels like enforced difficulty by slowing the player down. I keep on wanting her to be able to dive into cover etc etc. At the other end of the scale, something like Dishonored takes movement into an offensive realm, and gives you a real sense of learning a new way of playing. Just don't leave the player feeling hobbled
