  • Jogging is running at an easy pace. It's what runners do, innit. Or to put it another way, if someone thinks you're jogging you're obviously making it look easy. (If I'm doing a 20 mile race I definitely start things off with a nice jog.)

A very pleasing tempo run on the track last night, one of those that felt so much better than the last hard effort and suggests the fitness is coming back quicker than I thought. Decided to start out @ ~marathon pace and see how I felt. Felt OK stretching out for the last mile, which ended up faster than my 800 reps on Tuesday. 4 miles @ 5:34/m, splits 5:45, 5:37, 5:37, 5:17. (10 miles total.) I might be up for a Dulwich parkrun tomorrow to assess form before next week's Southern 12-stage road relays.

  • Jogging is all a bit 70s

    And probably involves legwarmers

  • Short length must be factored in to this too?

  • If this thread is representative, if you shit yourself you're a runner.

  • Running is definitely the new cycling.

  • If you wear a vest, you're a runner.

It's winter, wear a baselayer. You'll get cold in a vest.

  • Do you even cross country?

  • Runneur, please.

  • There's no such thing as cold. There is, however, such a thing as not running fast enough.

  • Before I have a go at the organisers of the Brighton marathon for their shite deferral policy, can anyone advise if it is actually any worse than other big marathons?

It's basically "suck it up, but we'll let you have 20% off next year's fee"

  • a lot of places don't let you defer or if they do you just get a guaranteed place but have to pay the full fee to re-register.

  • It's weird, but must then be standard in the marathon-world - I've deferred a few races in the past and had free entry the following year (including a triathlon, and you know they're not cheap).

If you defer, do they sell your place to someone on a waiting list then?

  • Ran in this morning, feel less like I've been treated to some rough handling than last time.

I was hilariously over dressed however - bright red and drenched when I arrived at the gym this morning, I shall be running home wearing a charming smile and my Adidas.

  • @Pifko For London I had to pay the full fee again, the only thing I really deferred was the guarantee of a place.

What was the diagnosis from the physio?

  • Physio was positive thanks and it feels a lot better. I'll try and get a quality run in Sunday and get back on my plan on Monday. How's your feet/foot?

  • If this thread is representative, if you shit yourself you're a runner.

During a run? Asking for a friend...

  • I always thought the jog/run distinction was a sub h:mm marathon time with the specifics dependent on who you were asking, if they'd done a 3:54 marathon then they'd say running meant a sub 4:00 mara, if they'd done a 3:12 then the run/jog cutoff would be 3:15, etc.

Not many srsbzns runners would admit to jogging a race.

(I'm definitely jogging Brighton, hopefully in about 4:15 but even that is looking shaky, no running for 5 days due to man flu heavy chest infection.)

  • I ran home, it sucked the balls.

  • @andyp nah. Golf is the new cycling

That makes running golf the new triathlon then.

    So behind the times!

  • You mean speed golf. You're not even saying it right

  • #golfmaprun
    You heard it here first.

  • D'oh! parkrun plans foiled by bad sleep, decided to go for a long run instead and get some purpose out of it by commencing VMLM sub-3 pacing practise along the canals and Thames path, so 16 miles total w/ 9M @ 6:50/m. Lovely morning for it.
