  • Not sure if the Casco SpeedAiro could qualify as aero but if anyone is interested, I got mine as a present not long ago and could help with questions that googling around can't answer. Although I'm not into TT or similar... but the girl thought I could help with eye dryness and my constant fiddling with glasses.

Couldn't find any tunnel testing, but this guy did some outside testing vs the Giro Aeon

  • Has anyone seen a aero drag test of the planet x track bike? Or a comparison to other frames?

    any links?

  • I wouldn't expect anything exceptional, it definitely falls under the 'looks aero' category.

Probably in the ballpark of 5-15 watts slower than a proper aero track frame (Cervelo T4).

  • Did you keep your PX track for long enough to measure the difference between that and the cervelo?

  • No, will hopefully get a bit of an idea of the difference this season but I've got quite a few other changes so it will be hard to really tell.

  • Probably in the ballpark of...

LOL@ the above being presented as meaningful.

    Come on Aerocoach!

  • 15w is huge!

  • 15w is huge!

It's not that huge, it's only 10% of my FTP :-)

  • It is.

    It's also bollocks.

Depending on the the primary reference.

And as much as I admire your talent...

  • You got a PM?

@Scilly.Suffolk in what way is it bollocks? I'm not the one who came up with those figures...

  • @Scilly.Suffolk in what way is it bollocks? I'm not the one who came up with those figures...

Citation dude; you know the drill: "probably in the ballpark of" is not the Aerocoach we've come to rely on.

  • That's why it's not official, hasn't been tested. And the market for people interested in going from a PX track to a Cervelo T3 is quite small.

  • Help appreciated, please. Which manufacturers make aerobars that clamp to a standard oversized stem and are adjustable for stack with risers? Zipp Vuka Aluminas, 3T Auras… Is there anything else I've overlooked? I'm a set of aerobars short of a bike, it's mid-March and panic is setting in.

    Tale of woe:

I bought a set of HongFu TT bars in January, partly because of their apparent adjustability, but also because I had a good experience with their carbon rims last year. The bars aren't working out nearly as well.

They cracked while I was tightening (with a torque wrench!) the long bolts that pass through the risers. They cracked a bit more when I was setting up my position on the turbo. HongFu replaced them under warranty without any hassle or cost (other than the 17 days the new bars spent in Customs.)

The replacements went on the bike last night and I took it out for a spin round the block this afternoon. Tonight I noticed very fine cracks on the base bar, around the edge of the footing for the risers. They could well be cracks in the paint, but don't think I want to ride them again to find out.

  • Which manufacturers make aerobars that clamp to a standard oversized stem and are adjustable for stack with risers?

Profile Aeria range if you're after a system of base+extensions, Profile T-series or 3T Clip On Kit if you want a clip-on to fit any 31.8mm base bar

  • Profile or Zipp. There was brief chat in the TT thread recently.

  • Do they have a glossy clearcoat?
Could be stress-related crazing appearing in the top coat. If it's on a matte-finish bar, I'd be more worried.
At the risk of sounding like a vulture, what are you planning to do with them? I love borderline dangerous equipment, so drop me a PM if you wish to sell them on. Dibs!

  • Cheers, guys.

The current set of bars have a matte finish, Lukas. I'm working on the assumption that matte carbon is still painted. No idea what I'm going to do with the bars yet.

  • Fair enough! I'd love to see some pics (of the offending area) if you do decide to move it along.

  • Here you go. On the left and right-hand side of the base bar:

  • PS Didn't mean to sound so snappy in my earlier reply. Sorry.

  • That looks like bad paint

  • No worries, and thanks for taking those snaps. I agree with Tester - looks like the paint might still be a bit soft under the surface, like they've put too much on before baking it dry.

  • Cheers, guys. I hear what you're saying, but I've decided to write the bars off and put it down to experience. I've ordered Zipp Vukas to replace them.

I can live with losing the drop on the bullhorns, and the smoother lines that come from not having a clamp on the bar. I've spent too much time fretting over this already, and this way I won't find myself doing 30-odd mph on a dual carriageway, on a fixed wheel, wondering if that really was a crack in the paint.

  • Sensible.

I'm wondering if my arm pad move to avoid the pads flexing is faster or slower. Too lazy to test it so might find out on Friday. Racing is literally testing.

  • But if you paint it like this, will it be moar arro?
