Maybe you're too fat? ;) My 808 on an old style Powertap has done a LOT of miles and is still going strong. I've never replaced bearings in it. I have replaced bearings in an even older hub (the non ANT+ variety) twice I think but that wheel was my commuter/winter bike wheel so has seen -much- harsher riding conditions than my race wheel.
I had issues when I chose to upgrade another Powertap wheel to wireless from wired - that was Paligap's fault and they acknowledged and replaced two or three units under warranty because they'd had a run of someone not sealing them properly after the upgrade. One of these was bought stupid cheap from the US, lasted one season and died, but I knew that was a risk - it had a crack in the carbon. Even with the out-of-warranty torque tube it was cheaper than buying a Stages or new Powertap.
With Powertap's now much cheaper I've moved on to the G3 style hubs which are a neater/lighter solution. I've had one Paligap warranty replacement of these style but again it was on a wheel I bought used and I'd done a lot of miles on it so no telling where the issue arose.
I run third-party freehub bodies on my wheels so the cheesey freehub thing also isn't an issue for me.
P2M on the winter bike/commuter I've done one battery swap on. I'll be buying another P2M new in the near future.

So you agree they're not great for trackies?

Another very satisfied P2M user here. I have 3, a 2nd gen classic, a road type S and a track type S. The classic has approaching 15k km and has been faultless only requiring a half dozen or so battery changes. The other two are much newer but both still have over 3k km each, again without a single hicup. All have been used in all weathers, the track one is on my fixed road trainer. Given how much bad press there is about Stages, I think the small premium for a P2M is absolutely worth it.

It's not really as black and white as that is it? If it's the only PM you own then whether or not it's truly 100% accurate (when measured against an SRM) is less important than it being 100% consistent. Depends on whether you are looking at it as a training tool (combined with hr and cadence data) or a measuring device.
I was very happy with mine as a training tool when it was the only one I had... Now I have the luxury of 3, and I still use it. Just not for big efforts. Making wattage re-calculations is hard when you're thrashing away at 160rpm.

It's all irrelevant anyway - give it a few years and shimano will have crushed the market, PM's will come as standard and we will all look like right idiots for spending ££££'s on them

I'm stuck With Virtual Power from trainRoad untill my P2M comes back.
Either its 25w off, or I lost 25w over the weekend. I actually reckon its more like 30w off.
Thing is. Once I decided it was off, and set a New target. Its actually a smoother number to follow than my PM gives out, even With 3 second smoothing, and without the delay. So as a training tool, its awesome despite its horrible inaccuracy.

You'll still be able to buy the Campagnolo versions for ££££'s.

In years to come the strap that monitors Our heartrate will also monitor realtime lactic Levels.
Nicer bikes may come With PMs as standard. But the buyers will still have eyewateringly expensive gadgets to buy.

Let me repeat: It once again boils down to 'the particular rider being happy with x error margin at x price point'.
If it's the only PM you own
Why would you buy it?
being 100% consistent
Which I think isn't or at least wasn't the case.

Yeah, except for those trophies/medals I have hanging up at home I'll feel really upset when they're ubiquitous... :P

Until I have my own wind tunnel or permanently integrated Alphamantis kit and someone beating me with a stick whenever I pick up a beer or piece of cake it's all a waste of money..

Depends on your L/R balance. Mine is pretty consistent (obviously I only know this because of owning a p2m.. but meh)
-
• #6866
I've never looked at L/R balance. I'm still not buying a Stages.

You just have get into climbing.
No real need for aero faffing, and each cake you decline Equals free speed.
(struggle to think of a good reason not to Reach for a beer though)
-
• #6868
Mine varies from 48.5/51.5 when riding easy, to 49.5/50.5 when pushing hard.
It does this very consistently. SO if you think about it. A stages will still give me consistant data at each Level of effort..

so - long story short - who's selling me a power meter?
-
• #6870
stages
-
• #6871
I will be climbing this year. Unfortunately, it's not enough motivation to stop me eating.

If you would like an SRM I can help
