Even though I'm after the work of a specific artist is it faux pas to show them photos of other people's stuff as a rough starting point? Obviously I would refer to their own artwork if they had what I was looking for but they don't.

Give them reference material and an idea of what you want.

Commit to going with whatever they draw.

Not a faux pas, but I would make sure it's similar to a style they do. It may help if you can show them a picture of something similar they have done themselves.

Yeah and there was someone with small Keith Lemon in a Mr Men style and the phrase "bang tidy" in their arse.

Not amazing or anything, but to me it seemed fine. Whereas the fucking massive generic flower tattoo that replaced it!

The Mr Keith lemon was the only one I've seen, much preferred the before tattoo too.

good reference is always helpful, every artist uses reference to work out their drawings. most reference you bring should be not tattoo related, if tattoo related than use it to show what style you like.

This is exactly what I have done with my tattoo this coming Sat - told the artist I want my cat (This is the only non negotiable part) in a hot air balloon. Gave her some pics of my cat, had a brief chat, we settled on monmon cat sort of style, and I left her to me, will see what she comes up with.

I'm getting tattooed by Scott Move tomorrow. I just asked him to design a boar goring a hunter and to make it "hard as fuck". I haven't seen the design yet but trust him to come up with something " hard as fuck". Speaking of which, I've got 6 hours booked, my longest session to date is around 4. I'm also getting some crappy areas done, like the back of my knee. Any advice for staying tough? Other than, eat a decent meal before hand, take lots of snacks and drinks and see how many painkillers I can swallow at once?

I've heard he's not too bad! (in terms of pain) I've been tattooed by Kel, who also works at Parliament a few times and apparently he's quite humane in comparison.

He's just a bit of a perfectionist and likes to go back over things a lot. He's also very quick.

I can't believe how quick he was! Managed to smash out all the lining and some fine detail in about 3.5 hours, need to book another session to get the shading done. I'm actually very glad I wasn't there for 6 hours, even though Scott's relatively gentle. Although the knee ditch wasn't great. I can't embed it but below is a video of what he managed to do today. The detail wouldn't show up in a photograph taken far enough back to fit everything in.

im not even sure it would need shading but thats just personal taste

It looks quite 2 dimensional at the minute and it's quite hard to work out what all the different shapes are so I think the shading will help with that. As well as that, Scott's shading is incredible!
