• @amey cheers babes

@umop3pisdn hundred and some more spensive, what's the rational for spending more?

tbh it's all a bit speculative, it just seems like stages would fit my bike with no faffing and give me some interesting data to look at.

  • Plus its light ;)

  • added 10g to my bike with a new stem the other day, fuming

  • Well you'd get your actual power, rather than an estimation. Why bother with a toy like stages? Just keep using HR or some other metric.

  • IMHO you get a lot for the difference when you buy a P2M over a stages.

I've even been using the L/R Balance data lately. My left leg is in bits, and only hurts after I've over worked it and the swelling sets in. But I do seem to get a Clue from my Balance. So can back off earlier.

I dont really have anything against stages. I just dont think they're priced correctly relative to a Direct crank Power measurement like P2M.

Its like DHB vs Rapha. But With DHB bibs priced at 85% of a pair of Rapha bibs. Yes DHB bibs are good quality, yes they will function more than good enough. But I'd buy the Rapha every time.

  • Sky use Stages AND Rapha

    mind-blown.gif

  • That said. My P2M is in Germany getting some TLC.

  • I will get Stages when its £50 for lols. Really keen to see integrated Shimano PM pricing.

  • Sponsership kinda falls outside of my pricing Winge though.

Thats more like free Nice bibs, or buy Your own nicer Rapha no?

  • I wear DHB and Assos but refuse to touch Stages.

  • I didn't realise there was such antipathy towards stages!

  • Stages is the Foffa/Aventon of the PM world

  • Buy cheap, buy twice.

I'm sure it does the job for the all the kiddies that want to see how they compare with Wiggo on their local 100k Epic Super Adventure Challenge Ride to Raise Money for Sportive Awareness and Support Survivors of Epic Suffering.

  • Sportive Awareness and Support Survivors of Epic Suffering.

Awareness and Rehabilitation for Sportive Experts Harmed Obtaining Lengthy Epic Suffering

    or

    ARSEHOLES

  • You forgot the keyword 'Surrey'.

  • "their local"

We all know where they live.

  • I am literally buying a PM to get more data on Strava, I am target market.

I understand that Stages is a bit of a bastard thing, and the figures they spit out aren't a perfect mapping of irl power, but if it's moderately reliable I don't see what everyone's issue is? I'm loathe to describe it as snobbishness, but if the data is close enough, I don't see why what works for the sportive tosser wouldn't work for anyone else.

All my cycling is on a pretty tight budget atm, and all I hear from P2M and Powertap is people sending them back for calibration, and if that's how my future looks I'd rather have one crank (and it's replacement) than send my spider or a rear wheel off...

  • I understand that Stages is a bit of a bastard thing, and the figures they spit out aren't a perfect mapping of irl power

So, why not save a wad of cash and let strava do the guessing?

if the data is close enough

Therein lies the issue. If you're not actually concerned with accuracy, why bother?

All my cycling is on a pretty tight budget

dafuq are you looking at powermeters for then?

  • You haven't been following this thread have you?

I, like many, many others, have been using a power2max for 2 years without a single issue. They are pretty much fault less now.

  • I'd get a Powercal rather than a Stages, tbh.

  • Or just have your secretary type random numbers into a spreadsheet and upload that. Job done.

  • Are stages "moderately reliable"? Google 'stages battery issues' and you'll find a number of mega-threads which suggest not. Given that and the left-leg-only limitation, save up for the P2M.

  • I thought they fixed that with the newer design?

Re accuracy, I thought it was more important to have consisten, comparative data than absolute accuracy. If you can only afford Stages, buy Stages rather than not bothering because it's perceived to be not as accurate as more expensive options.

Although, if you are able to fork out for a PM in the first place, agreed you might as well get something that just works for not masses more money.

  • The issue is Stages is £200 too much. Can't wait for Aliexpress version ;)

  • Do Sky actually use Stages ? You aren't getting marginal gains from guessing at power output.

On SRMs for training, Stages in races with an appropriate modifier for L/R balance rather than just doubling ?
