  • Definitely didn't need gosniff when I went past the sewage treatment plant.

    Fixed.

  • I led a ride for some of my colleagues yesterday, including a couple who are new to cycling . A loop into Surrey of 50miles. Tough conditions with sleet and hail for a spell but very enjoyable ride and i was really pleased with the performance of the newbies.

  • It was Skeet Hill Lane. Yeah, there were barriers up and the road was closed. I'm not one to draw unfair conclusions but it's not far from the Star Lane traveller camp. Why piss on your own door step and all that?

  • You might not be, but you just have.

  • Sadly that is not an uncommon sight in Kent, it is a huge problem.

I went through that lane yesterday afternoon and it wasn't there, so must have happened overnight.

  • I have no idea, I just headed for the hills in the distance and ended up here. Would have loved to have caught a ride with you at some point, you could have shown me some decent loops around Bcn. But alas the bike is broken.

  • This is the route, pretty much just circles the city!

  • I hate this thread... but I punish myself by coming here to look at some decent cycling scenery... my route this weekend involved 50 miles of hot, humid never-ending city:

  • Watched a taxi maul my pump as it fell out of my bag. Such broke. Many pieces.

Ran a soft rear all the way into town, go to lock up the bike, forgot my keys.

    Sluggish ride home.

    Bath, Bed and Beer

  • I hope there's some identifying material in that pile...

  • 4 layers on for Saturday's ride. I think I've finally got to grips with dressing for Brit weather. It was probably too much when the pace was up but I was glad of it when it rained and the wind picked up as it was fucking freezing.

  • Was riding up the hill from Westerham towards Clarks Lane today when a Skoda pulls alongside me and the driver is staring at me. This strikes me as odd. He then drives off, only to stop in the road just after Pilgrims Way and get out the car. As I ride towards him I'm trying to think if I've pissed off any motorists recently. He waves me down, only to say he has a Lynskey, but really likes the look of my bike and was curious as to what make it was. We then have a quick chat about it before he apologises for stopping me and I head off up the hill.

  • You've pulled.

  • Nice 130km out into Essex today (a route I picked up off @MadeinMelburn 's Strava feed a few years back). I seldom venture into Essex as I'm south-o-the-river but always enjoy it when I do (bar the slog to get there). Nice weather but a strong Easterly kept a lid on things on the way out but was a nice push coming home. Highlight was some deer running across the road in front of me. 7/10.

  • First "real" ride yesterday over the Omloop route as did not make it couple weeks ago because of flu. Beautiful conditions, sun was out, roads where dry, cobbles still cobbled.
Took it slow as girlfriend came along, much respect as this was her 6th time on roadbike and first +100k ride.

  • 6th time on roadbike and first +100k ride.

    rad

  • Weather forcast was dry and sunny for Saturday.
Still well below zero in the Mountains. But in theory the roads should still be dry and ice free.

Headed out early, on only a single cup of coffee. Mistake. Having swaped my crank spider I was dropping my Chain all over the Place. Then my Chain chewed up my chainstay protector which then decided to jam my cranks. Did a quick fix and continued to the Ferry port.
Went to remove my helmet at the Ferry and it wasnt there. Bloody left it in the Kitchen. Not great for descending Mountains at temps where any water on the road will be solid ice.

Anyway. The weather was awesome. Tried to hit a brutal climb from the town at the other end of the ferry ride. 2/3s up it was unrideable. So I cruised up to the ski resort 25km up the valley. Did a couple Climbs, ate loads of cakes, and cruised home.

First ride outdoors on the roadie this year (well in Norway at least). Gotta say I like it.

  • I've done that helmet trick before. Only noticed when I got home, went to take my helmet off and it wasn't there. It was sat in front of me on the kitchen table.

  • My Winter cap is pretty tight. So never really gave it any thought.

The first Climb had thin streaks of black ice on the road. So I was pretty careful the rest of the ride.

  • I started the Horsepower 200k in Dunmow on Saturday. It was a really nice day and I think I might head in that direction some more.

  • a sunny first hilly bunch ride of the year, in Amstel Gold Race territory. bloody cold still though, and I've yet to find my climbing legs somewhere

  • ^Cold!!??

  • yes man! 6 degrees above zero with a damn chilly wind (I wouldn't be able to ride a road bike in Norway, brrrr)

  • Just trolling.

I was probably +6C at sea level for me, on Saturday, too. At 700+m it was more like -4C. But the mountain pass I rode over is only a km or so long at the top. So I've barely had time to think about doing up my jersey before I'm descending the otherside. You just get into the habit of maintaining a descent HR for warmth.

On a day like Saturday cycling in Norway is blissful. Although any serious mechanical that stops you for a while, or if a poor weather front comes in. Things get super shitty, super quickly.

It started to rain on my last 10km home. Riding through sleet, and rain, within spitting distance of home is kinda cool. Feels a bit epic.
