atac vs spd stack

my giro privateers seem to be rubbing on the spindle of my headily worn SPD pedals. so the engage/ disengage doesn't feel very positive, there's occasional squeaking when pedalling.

also a now possibly unrelated weird jolt seems to have developed in my right foot.

anyway, was wondering about swapping to ATAC, will there be more or less clearance?

The only one obvious advantage of the atacs over the spd is the float. I use atacs because wonky knees but the spd were far more durable and reliable. I have a cheap pair that lasted me 10 years and still spin beautifully
