Heating up the baking soda turns it chemically into something else stronger so maybe worth trying if you can't get hold of other stuff
It turns into salt, water & carbon dioxide when it's heated, no?
Where would the chloride come from?
Article says it turns from sodium bicarbonate to sodium carbonate. So releases water and CO2 in the process.
