  • I may have a Strada Bianca tyre at home that you could borrow to try out. I'd have to double check I haven't thrown it away but I'll let you know.

  • That'd be brilliant! Thanks!

  • Swedee - you're deep into chasing a compromise now, it's going to end up with none of the problems of caliper brakes (rim wear etc), but also none of the benefits of discs (power, modulation etc) as the install will be compromised by the BB faff, cable entry angle etc.

Not to mention that cable actuated hydro are shit, will go wrong, and belong in the bin.

Either put a Spyre on the back and live with the not-as-good-as-hydro-by-a-mile situation, or sell the HY/RD's whilst they are still arguably "new" and get R-685 shifters/calipers.

    this

  • cough cough already told him to get those shifters cough cough

  • What I'm getting out of all this routing business is that the CAAD 10 disc is a half arsed effort? So while it's a bargain it may better go for a disc specific frame? And full hydro of course.

  • disc is a half arsed effort?

    Yes, for now.

  • I think it would be fine with hydro?

  • Not at all

Done right with cable pull calipers it works. Very well.

If it were done with hydro, as intended, it would be brilliant.

@amey - you need to get with the times bro 😘

  • Exactly.

The problem here is people (including me) are buying a high end frame, designed for high end kit, that as a full build retails for £2000, paying £350 for it and trying to do the kind of money saving build that is very achievable with a non-disc frame, where people have done it hundreds of times before, with a disc specific frame, where it hasn't really been done before.

It's largely uncharted waters, and what we're seeing unfold here, is the learning curve.

  • Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

didnt I introduce you to these?

  • Oh, so full hydro is all good. got it. should have bought one then!
Maybe I'll just wait for the CAAD 12 disc to be old hat and buy that.

  • I have a feeling the CAAD12 won't be 'Old Hat' for a duration similar to that of the CAAD10.

Also, buying a bike with a 25.4mm seatpost appeals to me about as much as a kick in the face.

25.4 is only acceptable if buying a bike in French Franc's

  • the hy/rd's are not new, I got them with 2 months use from a neighbour (small world), so not scared of trying and selling

but yeah @spotter was right all along. Where was selling the full hydro shimano levers and calipers? I can only find as part of a group

  • how deep will the rabbit hole go?

  • ah. good old crc. i might have to just pull the trigger on this

  • just ordered from bike-discount. In the end the cost will be very little when shifting my TRPs and ultegra levers.

would like to say thanks to the british heart foundation for allowing me to make such purchases on a phd salary. one love

  • Doesent this work out cheaper?

    https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-ultegra-6800-disc-brake-groupset-83417.html

Comes down to £590 with 5% code.

  • He just got rid of those God awful cranks, don't get him more!

  • its just wrong image. 6800.

  • Best solutuon, use 24mm crankset instead of BB30.

  • i already have all the other bits of the group, and I bought them at good prices

  • 24mm crankset with a sheathed bb (shimano) would also be another valid solution yes, but I do really want the hollowgrams. at the end of the day the TRP HY/RD will not work well with the caad10 disc anyway it seems (the shimano hydro cable angle seems better too)

hydro should do the trick. If not I give up, throw it in a lake etc
