Arsenal are in exactly the same boat as Spurs. Or were, before they bottled it this season. They'll wait another ten years, at least.
-
• #125253
They need a change of manager before they win the league again. Probably a change of owner too.

And a striker.

And a dominating midfielder, another centre back, plus a few leaders.

Probably want to throw in a new physio as well.

Agreed. It looks like his toughest yet. The other managers he's going up against, the money available to all of his rivals...

They're talking again about a mid-table breakaway by some of the Prem's most mediocre clubs - typically classy reaction to being outplayed by uppity minnows all season:telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/news/12180296/Top-Premier-League-clubs-meet-to-discuss-breakaway-super-league.html
There's a lot of bedwetting about this but there's no chance of the EPL being broken up at all. It will be the usual case of greedy bigger clubs looking to snatch a bigger piece of the pie and trying to cement more money and increase their likelihood of not missing out on CL tv money.
Years ago there was a conversation where big clubs thought about the above scenario and said lets make it the top three teams instead. As unthinkable as it was a liverpool team that finished 4th won the CL. LFC are there because they are still a huge draw worldwide and in terms of TV revenue...like Everton are to the rockport wearers in Wrexham.

He played for the Nob's and now he manages a bunch of them?
-
• #125266
We will never, never win the league again. You know it and I know it. Which is why this year is so important. I pray that Leicester or Tottenham win it as the chances of another team outside the rich parasites winning it again in the near future will be shrinkingly small

I don't think that Spurs will suffer too much if we lose a couple of players in the summer - it's more a collective effort that has got us to where we are. Sure Alli has shone, Lloris has always been brilliant and others have been good in parts but if we lost any of them, it's not the same as Liverpool losing Suarez and Sturridge (who pretty much carried them to that 2nd place finish).
I'm more worried about the manager leaving, but I think we will get at least one more season out of him before we have to worry about that.

That is actually wrong. Suarez was the catalyst, but Sturridge, Sterling, Gerrard, Coutinho and Henderson were all on good or great form for a lot of the season.
-

lolz. Yeah, their collective performances since he left would point to that hypothesis being wrong. I did also include Sturridge in the 'lost' category btw.. given that he is now pretty much just a £80k p/w training cone.

^This. There were many games in which LS didn't play and but the confidence was already cast. Many looks like shells of themselves then. DS thrived in not having LS around so he could prove his worth.

The flip of that is Liverpool were rubbish for the two seasons before with Suarez.

The step up was our prev Jan transfer window when Sturridge and Coutinho were bought. The remainder half season saw us finish second on form. Many question the wisdom of that extrapolation but we went on to finish the next season second.

Would rep for use the word "extrapolation".
I'm contemplating my navel right now after writing that.
