Today there was little to do at work, so I stamped out early and took the chance to rebuild my rear wheel.
open pro rim, 450g
Old spokes and new nipples.
Blackened the brake surface.
Old ugly bullshitrim, 690g.
The result was quite good :)

Open Pro on a disc road bike??
-
• #104
road/cross/tourer/workbike, why not? light and stiff rim! best rims i ever had as a messenger.
-
• #105
Fair enough.
Braking surface is a bit redundant and can easily be lighter and wider, very odd to choose Open Pro for CX/tourer/work, even road.

I got the rear wheel for free with a shitty rim on a x9 hub, i got a used openpro for free.
if this would be a kingpin project I had mosdef chose a better frame to start with.. :)
i have a bunch of expensive nice bikes to play with, this one is a LOWbudget multi bike.

Now it's time to fix up the bike for the summer adventures, I have started buying some stuff to it but still waiting for a fork and tires that should come soon :).
replaced my Red crankset with this DA fc-7400, i want a nice mix of old and new.
Tubus lowrider rack.
Fairdale rack.
Brooks c17, I tested it on my workbike for two weeks, feels amazing !
I bought these bags on a local bikestore on sale today, 50£ for two.
I hope more things drop in next week..

Where are you going this summer?
I don't get why you have shifted from sram red to dura ace. Was it only for the number of tooth? -
• #109
we will take the ferry from stockholm to tallin, then maybe go to warsawa :).
i dont really like the look of modern cranksets, thats why.

Nice journey indeed!

your kaffenback is such an inspiration for me.
-
• #112
Awesome looking bike.. what about black aluminium cages?
-
• #113
nah i like the ones i got :)
Bike is back with og fork that looks like SHIT, sold the carbon forks
to get money for a custom orlowski fork that should come any day.Anyway i got my new tires today Challange strada bianca 30mm.
-
• #114
What axle-to-crown length and rake (and tire clearance) have you decided on for the custom fork?
-
• #115
I still want to use it as a workbike so i want it quick in the handling.
38mm rake, 52mm between forklegs in crown, axle to crown 385mm, axle to bottom edge of crown 360mm. i takes easy same tiresize as the frame does so thats enough :)
Og kaffenback forks are 45mm rake and 400mm A-C
sounds aggressive maybe but og fork make the bike feels like a boat haha.

Tires are looking pretty good on there man & the fork will set it off! Straight blade?
cough throw the other cranks back on there cough
-
• #117
haha no red cranks here, yeah Straight blade.

• #118
I think if you want the same'ish trail from the custom fork as the carbon fork you should get it made with 45mm rake.
385mm/38mm is going to be more sluggish than the original fork you are using now.edit: more rake = quicker handling (seems counterintuitive)
-
• #119
carbon fork was 35mm rake, i liked that much more than the og fork.
-
• #120
yes but also 370mm a-to-crown so not the same. Get a fork with more rake :)
play with this: http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/trailcalc.php or bikecad.ca
I measured my carbon fork (same type) to 40mm rake...

i think it will work for me, i ride a orlowski custom fork with no calculation at all on my winterbike :) but yeah i get your piont.
i have easy done like 3000k on that fork on two different bikes and it feels great.

Great!
-
• #123
or look perfectly :), enough of this!
-
• #124
I think the og forks looks nice tbh! Whole bike is lovely too.
