Yeah as Tina says half frame camera, and shots like these of the same subject from two POV as call Diptychs, so each pair of images is the size of a normal 35mm frame.
I find it a fun way to shoot things and give a different perspective. These were taken on an Olympus Pen D3.

I've got an Olympus Pen half frame my grandad left behind. It's a beautiful little camera but the metering is broken and I haven't found what speed it's stuck on. Tried a roll of 800 iso film that all came out underexposed indoors so I'm guessing 125th sec. or thereabouts.
EDIT: apparently it's always 1/50 or 1/60. It's probably got a stuck aperture blade or something.

Does anyone have any recommendations for camera shops around Waterloo looking for a compact camera(front runner being the mju ii) and not too familiar with any shops around me?

oooo, what should I be looking for lens wise on the pentax?

If it's an m42 mount (threaded) then super takumar 50mm f/1.4 or 55mm f/1.8. Hell, any super takumar. The 28mm is wonderfull. They also did an amazing 85mm but it's rare.
I have the 28, 50, 135 and 200mm. All fantastic and can be adapted to use on the canon too, if your manual focusing skills are OK. -

Is it a spotmatic?

For k mount the 50mm f1.7 SMC A is a total banger and you can still buy them for £35.

It is indeed, I'll look into that for sure.

Check what mount your camera has - as well_is_it said there's the m42 screw type, after that pentax had it's own "k" mount.
Always found this database pretty useful: http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/ (scroll down to "Film era Pentax K mount lenses", then check the "A prime lenses" and "M prime lenses").
All these are of great built quality, really a joy to use! -

the lenses I've got are threaded, presumably that means M42 type?
EDIT: just re read @Well_is_it reply.

It's just a type of focusing motor that is faster than STM etc.

I don't know much about old zooms (I've avoided them tbh) but with one exception (zeiss 35-70 which is incredible) every one I've ever used has been shit. Nowhere near as good as modern stuff.

so a work colleague has a some lenses off of a pentax ME that he's offered to me for a very reasonable price, however after a look at http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/ my gut tells me they won't fit my spotmatic, am i correct?
apologies for the bombardment of questions, i am very new to all this as I'm sure you can tell.

Yup, ME is indeed K mount.
I never use the 28mm 3.5. You can have it for a beer.

I just bought a cheap Epson v500 on ebay, so I could mae some digital contact sheets/convenience. I'm pretty impressed with it, for what it is. These are the first two images I've ever scanned (not very interesting photos, just grabbed one b+w and one colour to test it out), using the standard Epson software, both straight out the scanner. Click through to the big versions, althought these are compressed jpgs, the resolution is pretty acceptable for my needs.- both shot on gw690 and scanned at 2400dpi.

any tips on decent/cheap or free scanning software and scanning techniques?
