HP Microserver + OS of your choice http://www.ebuyer.com/722189-hpe-proliant-gen8-g1610t-4gb-ram-microserver-819185-421?
I've been running an earlier model (same price band) for 4 years with 4 x 4TB HDD, SSD and optical drive and it's been rock solid. I have Windows Home Server on mine (was only £30 at the time) but any flavour of Windows or Linux for a cheap build. I have sabnzbd, sickbeard (tv equivalent of couch potato) & plex all running plus a variety of other stuff.

As @aggi says, get a microserver. Here's a decent deal that will do what you want.
my external storage drive died (protip: the buffalo diskstation ddr is eye wateringly fast but reviews now seem to state they are pretty much 100% likely to die on you).
looking to replace it with a 2 bay nas, ideally one that can run sabnzbd, sonarr, couchpotato & plex media centre so I can minimize running apps on my main computer.
seems like a synology box would do the trick but are there any other options i should be looking at? budget 200-400 including at least one 3tb+ hdd (will add another later if need be).
