  • hi all,

Can't believe I've only just found this thread!

I've been messing around with a couple of film cameras trying to self educate myself in the art of photography. I started using an olympus MJU 115, and moved on to a Pentax Asahi to try and get the feel for a fully manual camera, really enjoying learning about apertures and shutter speeds and when to use which variations.

I've also recently been given a canon EOS 300 body and so need to get some lenses for it however I'm clueless as to what lens fits what body so any advice as to what lenses I should be looking as well as recommendations for good places to find them is much appreciated.

  • Any EF Canon lens will fit the EOS 300. There's a bunch to choose from but they've updated their 50mm 1.8 recently and the 40mm is excellent and tiny. Even those giant white lenses you see on the sidelines of football matches will fit.

  • Hi,
..what Well_is_it said, look for "EF" lenses (not EF-S, they are only for crop-sensor digital cameras).
After that it really depends on what (focal length) you want, and what you're willing to spend.
I'm also a big fan of the 40mm EF STM, you can get this for about £80 on eBay, it's fantastic.
The 50mm's are all good value for money as well, find used ones or just get the new STM.

If you don't want / need auto-focus there's a lot great lenses for your Pentax that can be had for really cheap as well..
