I suppose it is a hard part to remove when seized. im guessing the notches on the lock ring ripped off and not much thought was put in to finding a solution. Im trying to think how this could have been solved.. folding edges of the lock ring back until you could grip it enough to crush it inwards away from the thread? tricky with the axle there but surely splitting it somehow would have been a better option.
