Can I persuade you go to TRP CX8.4 instead?
-

Too late. I'm planning a round 2 of new finishing kit/wheels later in the year so could upgrade then.

Alright, I started with Tektro RX-5 and now have 'upgraded' (Paid £30) to CX8.4 .. noticeable difference in braking power & modulation and easy to maintain design IMO. Road brake pads is a major plus.

Will check them out. I got the tektros for £12 so not expecting much.

A question on the wheels Joeboat.
Is the planetx logo laser engraved ? or stickers on the rims ?
I have an older set and they are pretty bombproof, once the stock bearings die fit better ones, other than that, mine have taken a right kicking and still going.
Tempted by another set but unsure on the logos. -

They are laser engraved. I've done a test with a paint pen to cover them. Looks alright so will do the rest. I'll post a close up pic later.
Are you using brakes? How long will the braking surface stay black?

Ta, was toying with another set when they go on sale again, might get silver next time.
I used V-brakes when on the Karate Monkey now using normal calipers on the old Raleigh.
Around 5 years old now, front wheel is showing it's age.
Ruined black finish from lots of muddy racing :) don't get them muddy and they should like nice for while.........
....most normal people won't do muddy DH races on track/urban wheels anyway....

Just looked back for an old photo.
Mine did have machined braking surface, also came with lock rings, track nuts and Q/R's. -

Thanks, Good to know they're pretty bomb proof then!
They're in the liquidation sale (just the black ones) at the moment, so they might come back with a new design soon. -
