I'm sure I read somewhere about cream cleaner being good

Is that tab for a chain guard?
Or race number?

• #106507
If you fancy selling them for half the price, then sure.

Toothbrush and Ecover spray cleaner works well for me on gumwalls.

Starting my first road bike build. I was really lusting after a disc CAAD12 (or CAAD10), but couldn't justify the cost without knowing whether I'd actually spend time riding the thing. So I went with a Cannondale 2.8 from the forum.
The frame has 1 1/4" headtube and I got a 1 1/8 - 1 1/4" tapered 3T rigida pro fork (focus branded and obsolete size = cheap). I almost got lucky with a principia branded headset from ebay, the lower cup fits over the wider section as advertised but the crown race ID is too small. Maybe it could be possible to find a crown race that would fit both the steerer and the headset cup, but I'm not really keen on ordering some just to try 'em out. Chris King would be a separate option, but €€€.

dont know if it will do but >>>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M-Part-M-Part-Elite-external-headset-1-1-8-sealed-bearing-/252297413320?

Won't work, I need 1 1/4" (EC37/33) external lower cup. Which I have except for the crown race.

What about Hope? They have the Pick and Mix range so I'd have thought you may be cobble something together from them.

Didn't the frame come with 1-1/4 to 1-1/8 headset reducers? It had them in when I sold it and I just used a standard 1-1/8 fork and headset then
-

Yes, it still has the reducers, but I'd like to use the tapered fork. I think it would be fun to make use of the larger diameter ht, and the fork was cheap enough that even with a King (maybe just the lower parts) it wouldn't be too bad.
@Oswald Thanks, I checked Hope website, but couldn't find anything in 1-1/4".

Would this crown race maybe work? What's the ID of the headtube?
-
• #106516
Possibly, unless the 45deg bevel starts too far out. I assume the outer diameter is too large, but it should't be an issue to file the edges down a bit.
I actually spotted that one too -- after placing an order at cnc and receiving the headset. At that price I would have given it a go, but cnc shipping costs are pretty steep. I guess I should check out lbs's but that tends to be low-yield with anything even slightly uncommon.
The headtube internal diameter is 37mm, and steerer at fork crown 33mm.

Build up my first cross bike yesterday. So much fun! Just need to find some good places to get it dirty.
-
• #106519
Wow that is lovely. Did you get it build custom or is it bought second hand?
-
• #106520
absolutely agree, that is on point
-
• #106521
Bought it second hand. Unfortunately can't afford custom but it is pretty much exactly how i'd want it. Fits like a glove. Looking forward to riding the crap out of it.

• #106522
Where do you find these beauties!?!
-
• #106523
Listen to Talbot. Most people don't need custom anyway ;-)
It is mighty fine that bike. -
