(I know cable disks aren't as good as hydro but) at the moment are there any good cable disc brakes that work with Shimano 6800 levers. Never thought about it before so sorry for the basic question

Lots of cable options - I had good success with 5700 levers and an Avid BB5.
You could try
TRP Spyre / HyRd
Shimano CX77
Avid BB7The Juintechs we have on a cross bike are very good in terms of feel but I don't think they are spec'd for anything other than cross.

HY/RD felt great with the newer 11 speed shifters (5800, 6800, etc.).
I vaguely remember BB7 felt great too with such a light touch (and compressionless, obviously).
Spyres also great, but felt a little stiffer due to the two springs on the calipers.

Paul has cable disc calipers too - a pimped up version of BB7 but with shimano pads.
They are not cheap but have a friend who is running a set, he said it's great.
I would say go for HY/RD, best of both worlds.

I found HY/RD give a little too much cable pull on the old style SRAM brake levers.

Oh yeah me too, look like a great alternative to the BB7, if it actually provide an improvement to the BB7, then I'd be all over it.
Expensive mind.

The MTB version of the Klampers apparently are to be avoided because of the way the cable bend into the barrier adjuster due to the longer arm.

Relative success! Have bled the front brake -first time ever doing so, surprisingly easy apart from ignoring the 'wear goggles' instruction and promptly flicked Dot fluid in my eye - and after doing so it was very obvious that one piston was completely stuck. Managed to free it up with a few drops of brake fluid, cleaned it all up and reseated it. Put it all back together and the only point it rubs is very clearly from a sort of twist in the rotor which is proving tricky to true. I'll probably just sack it off and buy a new rotor, but good to finally work out wtf was going wrong. Cheers for the help Ed and co.!

Ok, I'm having trouble. I took the front spyre brake off, cleaned it up and took the pads out to check for unusual wear. All good. Put it back on. Went out and broke hard on the front. As I come to a stop I can clearly hear the pad catching the rotor arms that come from the centre to the outer brake track. Alignment is good and everything is stock so shouldn't be any compatability issues. Any ideas? Please =[
(I took the brake off and cleaned and reset it in an attempt to remove the noise. This wasn't a result of the maintenance)

• #1243
Need resetting, are you certain you put it back exactly how it was?
Might need to move the calipers a little more.
-
• #1244
Yeah, it was making the noise before I took it off and apart. Everything is in the right place and what not. I've got some new pads that I'll try out. Went for the swissstop.

You sure about that? http://shop.upgradebikes.co.uk/Catalogue/Brakes/Disc/TRP-Syre
Anyway, I'm interested to know if the shimano's will use both piston like the Spyre's or just one

What are people using to clean disc brakes? Are the cleaners all much the same?
