If some horrendous tragedy had befallen the seller, then you'd think they'd have mentioned it when the prospect of Paypal taking their money prompted them to contact lemonade.
It's not about about a witchhunt, it's about stopping people getting ripped off: where do you think we'd be if Paypal "goods & services" hadn't been used?
It's all very well being cool and laid back and "what evs dude" when it isn't your money at stake, but you don't have to read back very far to see someone getting fucked over to the tune of nearly £300.
Rightly or wrongly, when trading on here there is an implied and inferred sense of trust arising from a community of people with a similar interest. A sense of trust which sellers can and do exploit to their advantage.
If you take someone's money, it's the very least you can do to keep in touch with them and keep them updated as to what is happening. Life does get in the way of our plans at times, but that is very rarely an excuse for not letting the buyer know that "Hey, I'm very sorry but Life has got in the way of my plans ..."
Two weeks with neither goods nor explanation? They deserve a "trade with caution" flag.

Alternatively, always deal with people face-to-face and avoid all this unneccessary posturing.

For me it depends how they make it up. Are they polite, apologetic and go out of there way to make it right and make it up to you? Or in the worst case scenario, are they an outright scammer. So that's why I'll wait and see! So far it looks much more like being the first of those.

So what was their explanation for why they didn't deliver what you paid for, nor communicate why they hadn't delivered what you had paid for, for two weeks until Paypal threatened to return your money?
Short of alien abduction or sudden incarceration, I'm struggling to think of why someone can fail to deliver what you paid for, nor communicate why they hadn't delivered what you had paid for, for two weeks until Paypal threatened to return your money.
Being a cunt and then being sorry for being a cunt when you get caught out, is not the same as not being a cunt in the first place.

Well everything is open to interpretation...
But I cannot get behind the idea that "as long as it's all sorted, it's ok" (regardless of what strokes have been pulled).
Or put another way: "I only want to make enough of a fuss and you all to get behind me, in order to get mine but not enough to upset whoever tried to fuck me in case I don't get mine, so tough shit whoever is next in line 'cause you're not my problem."

I'm with you, if I miss the last post day I get the money from a buyer I feel bad and apologies, and pay for the fastest delivery service I can.
Two weeks with no communication is a long time. It's almost made worse by the seller getting in touch so fast after the PayPal dispute was raised.

^^ I didn't say 'as long as it's all sorted, it's OK' - I just said there's a big difference between someone who makes a mistake then sorts it out (at best) compared to someone who is an unapologetic nobend or a scammer (at worst). And that I'd rather wait til I know which it is before spouting off and publicly shaming - which only seems fair to me.
If you got a cockroach in your lasagne, would you immediately get your phone out and rush to shame them on TripAdvisor? Or tell the waiter and see what they do to make it right, first.
Not sure if that comment was aimed at me but it's not really accurate if it is - I never asked anyone to get behind me, I wasn't rounding up a posse, I just asked for advice.

TripAdvisor is shite.

Not specifically, no. And regardless of anyone else's opinion, ultimately it's your choice.
What I am driving at, is that "prevention is better than cure": great if something gets sorted, but better if it doesn't go wrong in the first place.
It's only my opinion, but I see a moral obligation to share information about "bad traders", where as others are happy just to get a remedy.
I think most people would be pretty pissed off if, after a trade went sour, they learned that the seller was known to have a poor record.
This is an open forum and the opportunity for both sides to put their case is freely available.

Pretty naive of you to presume this is always possible.

• #3913
Does this also apply when someone is not strictly following the rules?
Ebay sale included here... -

Does what also apply?
He's been called out on it, but he's joined the forum solely to sell his bike and I doubt he'll ever post again, so doubt he gives a shit.

Pretty naïve of you lot to assume that it either is or isn't. :)

You gonna pedal to Glasgow to buy stuff off me?
-
• #3918
Only if it includes a free Glasgow kiss.

• #3919
Wouldn't pedal, but I have a pal who's in Scotland every other week.

Hardly naive, when ultimately you can trade with whoever the fuck you want. I prefer meeting up, but will post occasionally, depends on the impression I get from someone's initial communition.

Hey folks, watch out for this guy: @JacobBurke. He was playing with me for a few days that he for sure takes a frame from me. Then began his dodges: the bank was so annoying that he can't do the transfer so he asked me for paypal details but their "conversion rates" turned out to shitty for him. Finally he realised that he was acting to hasty because this is too much money for him. "Maybe in the future, but I will be sure to think properly before asking"- good conclusions bro! Personally I think that his mother cut him off from monthly pocket money when she found that he spend it on drugs.

Hello, I've written to Gruby and apologised profusely for my fucking around. I live in France and French banks are shit so I did indeed ask to pay via paypal. Unfortunately the conversion rate for the Euro is awful. I don't really understand why he's gotten so upset over this. People change their minds and although I've never done it before (on LFGSS), I see it quite a lot and I can imagine it's really annoying. He'll sell his frame, I have no doubt but I'm a bit freaked out about his over reaction.
Once again Gruby, sorry.
…bit late to this.
There may well be a spot of sarcasm (maybe allegiance, not sure) but it can be done.
UK Mail (ipostparcels), for £13.99, insured to £400 and next day delivery. I have used this service to send frames and wheels worth that much. Never had a problem.
So, yes, he was trying to fleece the buyer or at most, used an expensive courier.
