Me too, but they do have a place in certain builds!!
I always wanted to make S.Record brake levers aero, I give you my props.
Are you going to drill through the bars or are you going to wrap it underneath the bartape?

I heard drilling at an angle can be a pain, If you get a brand new alu drill bit, set bars up on a 45° block of wood It should cut through at an easier angle for the cable I presume?

The Cable will turn tight enough but bend carefully first in your fingers so it doesn't go in one spot which is what it will try to do. With the holes I drill straight and then file at a bit of an angle with a round file slightly elongating the hole and leaving it smooth.
The holes do not need to much of an angle especially if you have the front brake on right lever (unless you're an American or not a motorbike rider) -
