  • Love this bike. Did quite like the blue saddle cover though. Is the stem alu or steel + chromed.

    Stem is aluminium I believe. And Yeh it has saddle cover and wheelcovers on when not in use :)

  • I'm picking up an NJS frame soon and was curious how most of you chose your particular frame.
    Of course size is the major one but what came next?
    -Specific brand? (like choosing a Reminton because of the webbed lugs)
    -Price?
    -Tubing grade?
    -Condition? (no dents, chips, etc..)
    -Color?
    -Special features? (like fillet brazing or Max fork)

    Now that the whole craze has died down a little, seems like you have a lot of options if you're budget is in that sweet spot for most used frames (up to 700 quid). I already have a beater fixed gear (10 year old Bianchi Pissta), figured I would get something a little nicer.

  • Getting it in the correct size was my thing - I'm not tall by any stretch of the imagination, but 56sq frames appear to be few and far between.

    Next was tubing - I have a 3Rensho, a Nag and a Kalavinka. The 'Vinka is a Korean version but with the necessary Kalavinka lugs and of the three it's the heaviest.

  • Yeah, I was thinking of a 3Rensho simply because they'll never be made again by the original builder. They're usually pricey for anything decent though.

    I'm leaning towards a Level or Samson since they both impressed me in person but it's easy to forget just about every approved company can produce a really nice frame.

    Did you ignore certain tubing types? Was looking at a few Genius frames but I know they're quite thin.

  • This is going to sound a bit naïve, but sizing was the most important factor. Then tubing and finally price.

    The colour of them never really mattered because most of the NJS frames are glorious colours.

  • The chainrings are not as they're a specially made item, the rest is because it's just 7710 with a special graphic.

  • surely with all your knee issues you wanna get cranks that aren't too long for you? no offense but seems a bit like form presiding over function here.

  • Yeah, not sure if you saw it in my initial post but I mentioned sizing as kind of a given...I was more curious about the features after finding the right size.

    That's what is killing me the most...the colors are so amazing. I'm usually picky about that but there are so many awesome variations on NJS frames that it makes so hard to pick one. Even colors I would have never expected to like somehow end up looking so incredible on some frames.

  • After going to 165mm 75's from my previous 170mm setup, it made such a huge difference. Higher cadence was much smoother, none of that slightly rocking sideways in the saddle, not getting that "I'm spinning uncomfortably fast on this downhill/feeling" nervousness. Never thought 5mm would make such a difference.

  • I would go for in budget first (obvs)
    colours (I'd look for something that you can use with coloured grips cause its such a rare ability)
    or
    brand; you are buying an NJS frame because its NJS not because its a great track frame so being so brand conscious isn't much of a stretch.
    And finally look for special features; they all feel unique so I didn't worry much about that.

    Obviously if the condition is sufficiently bad then its a no go.

    That said the Kalavinka label was the main drive for me, aside from size restrictions and a price.

  • I dunno they probably do the job and if your happy..
    I am maybe a bit impartial.. Plus you have got pretty much full NJS there.. Go tubs ;)
    But riding on the streets.. yeh yeh ;)

  • New tape, seatpost and saddle for the daily hack. Looks much less fussy and shouty me thinks
